Trying again: What would it take to get _you_ to use core only?

What bonus would be enough to get you to seriously consider the core-only option?

But in order to answer I have to ask, which +1 ECL races are on the table for this poll? Any that are in the core at all? Do racial hit dice come for free as well?
Any core, but racial HD aren't free. That would be a bit too easy to abuse :-)

I'd do core-only if everyone else was.

Yup - if the game was core-only, I'd play it and have fun. Otherwise, it's pretty much a given I want to play a psionic something. Even if that just means a xeph monk or some such :)

I thought as much. I just did a quick look through the system resoure document and here are the choices.

Aasimar
Duergar
Hobgoblin
Merfolk
Tiefling

My answer for the poll was Any 2 of 1-5 but what I really meant was choice 2 and choice 4.

I have a number of core concepts I could settle on for bennies. The big penalty is losing out on the possibility of shield fighting, or whatever, and having to go pure basic power attacking cleaver, or whatever. But, if the bennies were exciting enough, I'd take them.

I'd still rather play something more interesting, mind you.

I don't need to be bribed to do a core only character.

Nor I, but I don't really like the hypothetical example.

If you're going to provide extra incentives to encourage Core then you're not really playing Core anymore, are you?

I don't mind being bribed. ;)

If the DM were someone I knew, whose game I trusted, I'd play "core only" without a bribe. The game is inherently fun; you don't need the latest splatbook to make it playable.
