Trying to name new classes

Hello all,

I'm working on some "new" classes, and I'm looking to give them good (evocative, cool, original) names. Since many people here have wonderful imagination and insight, perhaps I could profit from it :D. I already have some names, but that's only because I had to identify each "concept" in order to distinguish them one from another... You will probably notice that many names are borrowed from various Prestige Classes...

So here are the classes and a short description (I'm working to build more base classes to forego the use of Prestige Classes. I'm also trying to build them so that every class has flexibility AND gains something new every level)

"Totem Barbarian": A barbarian that draws his powers and inspiration from a particulare animal.
"Warpriest": A cleric more focused on combat.
"Mystic": Probably a spontaneous casting monk/cleric.
"Devotee": A cleric more fanatically devoted to his/her god.
"Beastlord": A druid in touch with a particular animal.
"Plantlord": A druid in touch with plants in general.
"Verminlord": A druid in touch with vermin in general.
"Archer": A fighter focused on ranged weapons (and not just bows).
"Weaponmaster": A fighter focused on a particular (melee) weapon, foregoing the use of all others.
"Swashbuckler": lightly-armored fighter that uses his wits as much as his weapon.
"Cavalier": mounted fighter.
"Ninja": monk focused on innocuous movement and special attacks/blows.
"Inquisitor": LE paladin.
"Freedom fighter": CG paladin.
"Lord of Negation": CE paladin.
"Jack-of-all-trades": a rogue focused on skills.
"Mentat": a sorcerer focused on Divination and Enchantment spells.
"Life Mage": a sorcerer focused on conjuration and necromancy.
"Warmage": a sorcerer focused on Abjuration and Evocation.
"Manipulator": a sorcerer focused on Illusion and Transmutation.
"Dragon mage": a sorcerer that draws his powers directly from draconic ascendance.
"Arcane Warrior": fighter / spontaneous arcane caster.
"Militant mage": the non-spontaneous equivalent of the Arcane Warrior.

I know, I know, that's a lot of classes...

Any thoughts or comments are welcome (but I'm looking for name ideas for now... Once I have their level progression thought out, I'll post in House Rules).

Thanks in advance!

Beastmaster sounds better for this one, than the Druid...

Zealot?

"Beastlord": A druid in touch with a particular animal.

You could go with Ailurophile for Cats, Ursinophile for Bears, etc., or just "Catfriend" and "Bearfriend"?

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Plantlord": A druid in touch with plants in general.

Same here... Phytophile, or Plantfriend. Dendrophile for trees?

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Verminlord": A druid in touch with vermin in general.

Vermithrax? Vermiphile? Arachnophile (Spiders)? Miriaphile (Centipedes)?

Altamont Ravenard said:

Not specific enough... Swordmaster, Daggermaster, Chainmaster, etc.

"Inquisitor": LE paladin.

(Devilish) Dominator.

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Freedom fighter": CG paladin.

(Righteous) Rebel.

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Lord of Negation": CE paladin.

(Demonic) Destroyer.

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Jack-of-all-trades": a rogue focused on skills.

Which is different from a Rogue, how?

Altamont Ravenard said:
"Mentat": a sorcerer focused on Divination and Enchantment spells.

Charismentalist (Charisma (for Enchantment) + Mentalist)?

"Arcane Warrior": fighter / spontaneous arcane caster.
"Militant mage": the non-spontaneous equivalent of the Arcane Warrior.

I am not sure, I suppose you want the name to still be quite generic since they are core classes, at least it seems so from your current examples. Almost all your names are very good.

Are you going to keep the regular core classes? If you do, are you going to change their names?

Anyway, I'll give my 2cp ;)

"Totem Barbarian": it goes over the Barbarian, what about Totem Warrior?
"Warpriest": OK
"Mystic": OK
"Devotee": OK (but the Zealot was good too)
"Beastlord": OK *
"Plantlord": OK
"Verminlord": OK
"Archer": OK
"Weaponmaster": OK *
"Swashbuckler": OK
"Cavalier": OK (or Knight also)
"Ninja": OK
"Inquisitor": I would say it would be appropriate for any Lawful, maybe the Dominator suggestion is better
"Freedom fighter": OK
"Lord of Negation": I prefer Destroyer
"Jack-of-all-trades": OK
"Mentat": I don't like this one, maybe Clairvoyant (or Telepath?)
"Life Mage": Lifemancer? But even Healer would be fine
"Warmage": OK
"Manipulator": Prestidigitator? Trickster?
"Dragon mage": OK, also Dragonblooded
"Arcane Warrior": OK, also Eldritch Warrior
"Militant mage": well, same as above...

* you can keep these as general names and each character may call himself more specifically (just as the PrCls: Axemaster, Swordmaster, Catlord, Wolflord...)

Wow, very cool suggestions (even Krug's). I knew I could count on you guys. This has probably given me ideas for MORE classes. :D

I'll probably be keeping a lot of core classes, but won't mind discarding those that become obsolete (for example, the "Dragonmage" will probably replace the sorcerer, and I will add some sorcerer variants).

There will be much less focus on stealth and sneak attacks, and more on skills. Somewhat of a ((Bard - Music - Magic) + Expert)^2

And will you be sharing these with us?

When I have enough material, I'll probably be posting for advice and suggestions in the House Rules forum, yes. I warn you all right now, all these classes will probably be more powerful that the usual base classes (that's why I'll have to pump those I do keep).

Thanks again!
