Trying to publish a campaign setting .

Hi to everybody !

Me and my friends are in the early steps to publish a new campaign setting .
It will be in Italian and auto-produced in Italy , with the project name tentatively called Windmasters - English names in Italy sound cool ! - .

Besides the details , in the setting we'd like to introduce some things from other sources .
I Have some questions :

- if the spell/feat/ is Open Game content , I can insert in my book ?
- if it is Closed Game content , I have to ask permission to the original publisher ? How ?
( If I want to include the Healer class from miniatures handbook , I have to ask to WOTC ?)
There are some chances of permission ?

Thank you

Hi there!

Yes, but you'll have to credit the publisher in section 15 of your OGC.

Yes, you must contact the publisher. No exceptions. I have no idea how to a response out of WotC. If this is your first time, some of the bigger publishers probably won't take you seriously.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions about this kind of thing in the Publisher's forum.

It's a good general rule to contact any publisher regarding their content. It's considered a gentlemanly thing to do. It also ensures that you have the latest version of whatever it is you want to include (in case there are any outstanding errata), and it also enables the publisher to know where their content is going. And as BG said, you need to add the appropriate information into your section 15 of the OGL.

Regarding WoTC content, I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for it. You can ask WoTC, and while there is a chance they will allow it, they may also charge you for the content.

Regarding d20 publisher closed content. Depending on the content, the publisher can choose to allow you to use it or not. In those cases, you will need to also designate it as closed content, and stipulate in your license that it is not open, and used with permission from the source.

I tried contacting WotC, well good luck and don't expect an answer for a year. Note the answer will be your letter you sent.
