TSR's attack against Gary? Or, no insult intended?

Was "WG7 Castle Greyhawk" (TSR's very, very silly take on this canonical dungeon) an attack at Gary Gygax? A parting insult as he left TSR?

What's more, was the culmination of the Gord the Rogue novels (you all know what happens to Oerth/Greyhawk in the end) Gary's retalitory attack against TSR?

(Is the a real life Invoked Devestation followed by a Rain of Colorless Fire?)

I think you're reading way too much into all this stuff. I never read the Gord books, but I am familiar with the Castle Greyhawk humor collection. A dig at Gary or vice versa? No, that's silly. More like a dig at all of the people who obsess at the little hints dropped at the adventuring under Castle Greyhawk by Gygax in his various articles. I mean TSR comes out with a Castle Greyhawk anthology and it turns out to be an April Fool's day joke of sorts. Pretty rich, I think.
That or it was TSR's attempt to invoke the spirit of dementia in a Weird Al-Dr. Demento kind of way. Instead of putting a famous tune to parody lyrics, they took a famous name and put it to parody use.

I recall several signs that Gary didn't take his campaign setting very seriously. The fact that the name of the God of Comedy was awfully close to Gygax spelled backwards did not escape my attention! Besides, Paranoia and other humorous games were getting very popular at the time, and my thought is that TSR wanted to cash in on it.

I think the Gord books had a bad case of "scope creep" that practically demanded that a multiverse or two be destroyed in the end. Of course, I always thought Tharizdun would be a little more... ominous (as opposed to scary, we all know that a divine nine-year-old is plenty scary).

In other words, I think the two projects were more a sign of the times than a sign of their mutual dislikes. I'm sure the dislikes were a factor, yes, just not a big one.

Actually, I have no idea how those ended? Tell?

I don't know how to post a spoiler, so I'll just come out and tell you. Oerth (home to the Greyhawk campaign) bites the bullet! It dies. Kapoot. Finito. It is annihilated!

dead, you should ask Gary that question. Perhaps it's time to resurrect our Gygax Q&A threads PC?
