TTRPG Cataloging and Metadata Survey (UW Survey)

Some folks at the University of Washington are creating a classification system for TTRPGs. I had fun filling out the survey and I would like to pass this joy onto y'all.

I can't say it's the... most well written survey, but it asked about a bunch things that's been noodling in my head. For example,
  1. It asked me to define terms like "playstyle," mechanics," "rules-lite," etc. Being a frequent lurker of these forums, I do spend a disproportionate amount of brain power thinking about this.
  2. It asked me to rank what I find important in a game (mechanics, playstyle, themes, artwork, etc). Trying to rank these kind of forced me to challenge my own narratives about what I think is important in a game.
  3. There were a number of "what is your top 3 favorite" type questions, which I really like to do.
It's not a long survey, but there is a surprising number of free form answers, which made me spend a good amount of time filling it out.

“The data collected in this survey is anonymous, and will be used as a part of a capstone project for a group of Library and Information Science graduate students at the University of Washington. The capstone project intends to create a usable TTRPG metadata schema for classifying and cataloging TTRPGs.”

That explains most of the issues mentioned.

There’s a difference between qualitative and quantitative data. Simply because the answers are freeform does not make the survey useless.
