Tumble query

Can a character with Tumble use said skill to get up from a prone position?

This came up in yesterdays game, and I couldn't find anything saying yes or no.

Any help is appreciated.

There's an epic use of tumble called 'free stand' that let's you do that:

Free Stand
The character can stand up from prone as a free action (instead of as a move-equivalent action).
The DC is 30 35.

It doesn't say wheter you provoke an AoO with that but i'd rule that you don't.

Right- but at DC 35, it's well in reach of non-epic characters.

Well... if you totally focused on Tumble, you could do it:

7 ranks + 5 dex +3 Skill Focus +2 Acrobatic (? or whichever one it is) = 17. So you'd need to roll an 18, but it would be possible...

It'd be a DC15 tumble check to avoid causing an AoO while doing so, with a +10 to the DC for going at full speed instead of half.

The DC 15 Tumble check is to avoid AoOs as part of normal movement. You're not moving when you stand from prone; you're remaining in the same square. 'Half speed' and 'full speed' are irrelevant concepts when you're not covering any distance.

Yep. In a similar vein, the mobility feat wouldn't give you an AC bonus against an AoO you provoke by standing up.

There's always acrobat-thief, or feats, or skill tricks . . . but it's rather hard to pull off at level 4.
