Well, when people play smart, yeah. ;)

Me, I'm playing a rogue who's an excessively reckless person. (That's just the way the character developed in my head, and I'm playing it to the hilt.) So I'm usually in the front line anyway. In fact, I'm fairly certain the cleric has used turn undead in this campaign, on more than one occasion, for no other reason than to get the undead off of me and the fighter, to give us a chance to recover. ;)

My last stint as a player was in 1997, with one 1st level Fighter vs. a whole cave of orcs.

So I tend to think careful first. :P

So here is 4e Turn Undead (from the Human Cleric sheet)...I love it:
Encounter * Divine, Implement, Radiant

Implement?? Holy Symbol I imagine. The player sheet has no shield - I imagine you could still hold a Holy Symbol in your shield hand? No two-handed dire flail for clerics?

At the top of the cleric's spell sheet you'll notice a paragraph that explains implements.

Just put your holy symbol around your neck and grab it when needed.
