Turning feat thoughts

Hi there

I've got a fairly new player joining my 5th level campaign and wants to be heading towards the Hunter of the Dead prestige class. Currently they want to start out as a cleric/favored soul for backround reasons and access to a fair bit of low level divine magic.

None of the other characters are optimal by any means, so I've elected not to discourage this. However, since the favored soul does not have access to turning, I've been thinking about a feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster (I think I that's the name).

This would be a feat that allows a character to add 3 to their turning level, up to their character level. So a 2/3 cleric/favored soul would turn as a 5th level cleric. This also may prove useful to the party paladin.

Any thoughts? Has this been done somewhere? Would it be balanced?

Honestly, it'd probably be balanced if it was just a feat that said "When you take this feat, select one class that doesn't provide access to turning. Levels in that class now coutn as cleric levels for purposes of turning"

'cus come one, turning isn't as powerful as Caster Level, and 1 feat gives +4 (up to HD).

There is, at least in 3.0, Heighten Turning. You subtract a number, up to your effective cleric level, from your damage roll (the total HD affected) and add it to your turning check (to see the maximum HD affected). Pre-reqs are Cha 13 and Extra Turning, but it only saw print in Defenders of the Faith and has not been updated to 3.5 as far as I know.

Edit:OK, yeah, it has seen print in 3.5. It's in Libris Mortis. And if you need to affect more total HD, there's Empower Turning: just multiply the total HD affected by 1.5, if you have the feat.
