Here are the news bits:

First News Bite
Site founder/webmaster Gord Lacey is at the EMA show in Las Vegas this week, and while there he's spotted an upcoming DVD release titled Batman:The Animated Series - The Complete Series. Yup, he spotted that title on a mock-up box. He describes the box as 'longer than it is wide' (similar in shape to The O.C. - The Complete Series, but apparently NOT put together the same way that package is), and the "book" slides into a plastic slip cover. Gord described it as a very nice set, and one that fans will want on their shelves. He attempted to take a picture of this, but unfortunately the glass case that the mock-up is under got in the way (glare).

There were no details to accompany the mock-up, so we're not sure if this is just for "TAS" proper, or if it includes 1997's "Batman: Gotham Knights" as well (probably included), or if it also includes the theatrical and direct-to-video such as 1993's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, 1998's Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, and 2003's Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (these are probably not included, we would guess...but then again maybe: we simply don't know yet how "complete" Warner might mean!). No release date or pricing was available yet, either, but stay tuned and we'll try to find out more!

Second News Bite
A few weeks ago we told you to expect a Batman: The Animated Series complete series release later this year, and now we have the official announcement including details and artwork.

The 17-disc set includes all 107 episodes of the series as well as a 40 page Collector's book with artwork from the vaults. The complete series will also include a new special feature, though no specifics were mentioned; you can see the bonus disc on the left-hand side of the image below. All the original bonus material, including commentary tracks and featurettes, will be included on this set. Suggested retail price is $107.92, and it'll be in stores on November 4.

Here's a look at the artwork:

Last week we showed off Warner's official announcement, including details and artwork, for their November 4th DVD release of Batman: The Animated Series - The Complete Series. Now the studio has sent out a look at the rear package art for this elaborate release, and we've got a peek at it for you below.

There are several shots, starting with a look at the "Batman and bats in flight" emblem on the back of the clear plastic slipcover. Then there's the back of the box itself, which we assume is a removable sheet that's going to be "stickied" (with easy-remove glue) onto the backside of the shrinkwrapped package. That shot primarily consists of two elements: the "beauty shot" of the front of the box, complete with inside contents, and then the text which describes the contents and extras of this release. So we've got close-ups of those two areas as well. Enjoy!

*twitch* well, now I dont feel so bad for never getting the individual volumes. I can get them all at once now.

Still, between this and the Real Ghostbusters release, I'm going to be running out of pocket money. :D

The lame thing about the individual volumes is that all four together doesn't make up the entire series, there a some episodes missing. I held out because I was hoping for the complete series release.

While I think buying complete seasons of TV shows is lame and expensive (since you can just watch them from Netflix), this is something I'd actually consider buying. Batman the Animated Series was amazing. Probably my favorite interpretation of Batman and the Batman universe ever (especially Mr Freeze).

Very nice box set, and actually a good value even at retail. Though I can't shake the feeling one day we will see a box set with both the Batman and Superman animated serieses some day in the not so distant future.

This was a great show, not just a great animated show. This show and the Superman series helped define the difference between "cartoon" and "animated drama" for me. I watched it as an adult in my 20s and enjoyed it thoroughly. None of the more recent animated interpretations of Batman have topped it IMO.
