Tweaking SG-1 rpg with d20 Modern

Can anyone help please.?

I have some players that so finiky that they're are dragging their feet over the idea that SG-1 doesn't specificly say "Must use d20 Modern" on the front or that the SG-1 classes aren't "Advanced Classes."

I haven't though out the details yet , but it shouldn't be that hard to just put some requirements on the SG-1 classes, should it?
And since Spycraft dice increase in size, but d20 Modern doesn't that shouldn't be a problem. Right now, I am curious if there are any other bits and pieces that I need to think about adjusting before diving into the conversion ... Before I stand my players before a gate just before the "flush?"

And of course from here on out with a converted game, I'll have to assume that my group is 3-4 levels better than a Spycraft-based group.

Ironicly, I've always started my d20 (Modern and DnD) out around 4-5th level so that the characters are ready to get right into the swing of things. So unless the players beg to start off at level 1, those basic class level aren't going to see any action anyway.

You may know this, but Alderac (makers of SpyCraft) are creating a d20 Stargate RPG as we speak. It will be available at GenCon in July and will be released to the public some time in August.

According to their site, it will use the Spycraft rules.

You should be able to easily adopt that to D20 Modern -- perhaps by simply changing from the wound / vitality system. :D

I've adopted some material from Spycraft for use in my Modern games already.

Yes, AEG's upcoming SG-1 rpg w/ Spycraft rules is what prompted me to start up the thread.

It's pretty much why I mentioned the word "Spycraft" in my first post.

 Doh! Evil around every corner...

I have a friend who is going to be a rep for them and he is getting the book early. I suspect it will be well done. Their Spycraft and Farscape material is pretty good stuff.

Well, I for one am quite pleased with how the Stargate SG-1 book has shaped up :D. The rules text is very clean and easy to understand.

I've made some posts to this forum in the past on converting Spycraft (and by extension, Stargate) material to d20 Modern. Given the way crits work in Spycraft, you may want to replace the Action Point system with Action Dice - the ability to crit on a skill is an important part of the system... You might be able to find some of those posts with a search.

In general, I'd agree that a Spycraft character's range of abilites is similar to that of a D20M character 2-4 levels higher, just with less HP/Vitality. If you'r players want to start at lower level, they'll still find their character's to be quite competent right out of the gate.

As for getting a head start, the Pointman and Soldier are almost unchanged between Spycraft and Stargate, so if you can decide on a set of Requirements to enter those classes from D20M's core classes, you're well on your way. Just stick with Stargate's rules about core abilites- stacking up a couple of those by cherry-picking the first level of seveal base classes is going to present a problem.

Unfortuntely, some of us can't really afford to "subscribe" to ENWorld as full-fledged members so as to use the search function. :o

Otherwise, thanks! This is just the meat I was looking for my conversions.

Just what I would be aiming for with a D20M conversion. :)
