TWF Ranger Builds... looking for advice...

Brace Cormaeril

First Post
Hoping some bored folks up late would have some idea on a TWF Ranger. I want to pick up improved shield bash early, and use the shield to, well, bash. That's as far as I am with this.
Anyway, thanks for reading the worst new thread ever in enworld, any replies are appreciated!

It could be fun to go Ranger/Scout and get the Swift Hunter feat. The feat allows levels to stack for Skirmish damage and Favored enemies, and also allows you to deal skirmish damage to enemies otherwise immune due to type.

Improved Shield Bash is the obvious place to start, as you have already worked out.

Obtaining a shield with the 'bashing' property would be a good step.

Aside from that, have a look at some of the feats in Complete Warrior and PHBII for fighting with shields; not that you have that many feats to work with.

Yep. If you stack Bashing with a Spiked Heavy Shield and take Improved Shield Bash and Agile Shield Fighter, you pretty much have a one-handed magic greatsword that gives +3 to AC. :)

2d6+1 damage, one hand, gives +2 ac from Heavy shield and +1 from magic.

According to the FAQ, Bashing and Spiked Shield is not a legal combination. You either get spike damage or bashing damage, not both. However, in later books, I believe that the FAQ was been superceded by examples that clearly list them as stacking.

I'd be interested to know which books as while not a big fan of the FAQ, I would have thought it was in the right on this one. And if it isn't, then more ammunition for the next time I denounce the FAQ :)

I can't remember. It was recently, though.

You can't use this as ammo since this came out years after the FAQ... Times change.

Couldn't you wield two shields at once, attacking with each? If that is the case, I would slip two to four levels of fighter into the build for the extra feats (Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Melee Weapon Mastery).

As I recall, it was the BoED that contained the Asura Shield, which was a spike + bashing stacking shield.
