Two Weeks and Counting -- November 2nd!

Uh... wow. I'm also rather dismayed at the thought that I could get banned for simply expressing the honest (and IMHO politely worded) statement that I find bright backgrounds physically unpleasant to read text on. Especially since other people here have the same opinion.

I could understand if we were ranting and raving, but everyone's been polite and offered specific reasons why they find bright color schemes uncomfortable. And nobody's demanded it be changed, but just wanted to note that an alternate color scheme would be a useful expenditure of effort because there are people who would use it.

In short, chalk me down as someone else who's very surprised at the reaction to valid, constructive feedback from the actual users of the site.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Edit: Sorry, other people posted apologies before I finished writing this. Still kinda made me a bit nervous, though. :/

To everyone else - sorry for Mike's outburst. He's been working hard at this, and got a little too emotional.

Not a problem. I've been there before and reacted no better. I do appreciate the hard work he (and you mods, for that matter) put in for the site. I can certainly forgive and forget something as slight as this.

Make that April :]
Well since I already got credit / blame for an additional month of delay, let me say directly to Michael "take as long as you need."

Seriously Michael, the screen shots ROCK! The work you have put in looks VERY impressive and I think most of us are eagerly awaiting the new site in ANY color scheme. The fact that it will not debut in my personal color of choice is SOOOOOOO far down the priority list to be non-existent! I am glad you are focusing on functionality, stability, and computability first and skins later. I think we can all handle bright colors on a good site better than our favorite colors on something cludgy, like say a Gleemax? Keep doing the good work you are doing and get to skins whenever you do, even next April.

As someone who was once a coder myself back in the dark ages of FORTRAN and COBOL though, let me say this to you for your own sanity my friend... walk away for a while! Take a break, see a movie, read a book, catch a game, just put it down for 24 to 48 hours and let your brain recharge for your own good. A stroked out administrator does none of us any good!

Then come back all refreshed and get back to work, SLACKER! :) And just try to think of all of us as your kids on a long trip... "Are we there yet?" every 10 seconds.

Another change that cannot be derived from the screen shot is that I am pointing every single element of the design to a style sheet setting. vbulletin doesn't do this by default, so it means an extensive rewriting of the templates. The finished site can be reskinned by anyone who knows CSS without worrying about the javascript or the templates. If anyone wants to do that work before I can get to it I don't mind uploading and adding what they come up with.

Oh, excellent! Can you post your CSS file(s)? That would give those of us who can work on new color schemes a template to go off of.

Thanks!

When the site goes into beta the CSS will be sorted and finalized. Right now it's too badly in flux.

I'm warning you now, it's 1100 lines long and growing.
