As much as I dislike the concept, I am informed that Cityscape has

DR / city

OK, I'll bite, what does this do? Does this mean you resist damage not caused within a city? You can only be hurt by collapsing buildings? What about torch weilding mobs of people who live in cities?

My correction. It is actually an energy type, not a DR type, but either way it is just as bad. :uhoh:

In my homebrewed campaign, I also have DR x/salt, usually for Far Realms based creatures or other seriously aberrant critters.
That's what our AOW game needs, giant salt shakers for all those icky worms!

That shows again the vast disconnect between the present and the past. As little as a few hundred years ago Salt was very very valuable in many - if not most - locations. In some places and times in this world, people were actually paid in salt - it was simply that valuable. That's why there are superstitions about what to do when it is wasted - even a little bit, such as the one about immediately throwing a pinch of it over your shoulder to get in the eyes of whatever evil spirit caused you to fumble and spill the salt. Of course, the same is true about other items that were once considered highly valuable - such as mirrors (remember the saying about breaking a mirror caused you seven years bad luck?).

Items were often considered damaging to evil / fae / spirit beings because of their rarity or their unusual properties or mystic associations with certain parts of nature - such as silver and (cold) iron.

That's a Pratchettism! It means magical swords are no help against you, but a guy with a half-brick or a sock full of sand will knock you right out. Or a normal kitchen knife.
