D&D 5E [Tyranny Of Dragons] What character are you playing?

I feel you! I want to run the adventure but I have character concepts in mind as well.

The first is a Human Warlock with the Guild Merchant background. He's a kid - about 14 years old - but Lawful Evil. Like Joffery (Game of Thrones) but more conniving. His parents were in the Cult of the Dragon (where he got his Fiend Pact at a young age) until they were killed by rivals, and now he wants revenge. And gold. Gold is nice too.

The second is a Human Soldier Paladin. After months of apocalyptic dreams where the world was destroyed in waves of acid, fire, lightning, cold, and poison, she deserted and went searching for their source. She's actually Lawful Good, but curses like a sailor and would be the first to join a good barfight.

I love 5E's background/ personality trait system. There are so many possibilities!

I'm the DM but here's the characters. My players decided they'd all make elves. Stats were generated with point-buy and Savage Worlds Fantasy Character Generator was used to flesh out the backgrounds.

The first two characters are half-human brothers from a minor merchant family. The parents are both alive but in poor mental health. They absolutely adore their sons.
Andor the warlock (pact of the chain, fey patron) sold his parents' sanity to his patron to get his powers. He has had several unlucky romances in his youth. Once he eloped with an elven girl but grew tired of her in a couple of weeks sending her back home. The girl's influential father never forgave Andor and as a revenge wants to kill his entire family. Just years later Andor got married, but divorced soon, and the ex wife also wants to kill his entire family. We decided it must have something to with his warlock powers and fey influence he has on people.
Rayek the brother is a bard born under auspicious signs. His human blood is strong but unfortunately it's tainted by orc blood. He has bouts of bloodlust and is blessed by a war god (undecided, possibly even Gruumsh). In his childhood he witnessed a green dragon kill his people and in his youth he was bitten by a werewolf so he's possibly a lythari (Faerunian elven werewolf).

Next we have three wood elf brothers from a respected farmer family. The mother died in a work related accident.
Silwe is the black sheep of the family. He's not comfortable around people but prefers to wander around in nature. Fenmarel Mestarine, the elven deity of outcasts, is his deity. He's a master archer and survivalist, unable to accept help even when he needs it. One of his extra languages is Horse.
Nasir on the other hand is "the gods' gift to elven kind" according to his late mother. He's a ranger and a local hero. His father taught him to fight and he's overconfident in his abilities, but always courteous with people. Behind their backs he tells cruel jokes, and he likes gambling a bit too much.
The youngest brother Raindir is a dopey diviner-sage. (He puts high in the High Forest) He's kind but absent-minded, and he values knowledge and truthfulness over everything else. So far he has proven to be the best archer in the group due to his lucky shots.

During the first session the group met Ulceldo, a moon elf mercenary. His mother was a priestess of Corellon who tried to teach her son magic to no avail. Nowadays Ulceldo is desperate to prove himself to the world and his mother which makes him take needless risks. He serves in Greenest's elite unit the Grey Unicorns.

That's a good idea.

The Characters.

  • Random—A human, former Cult of the Dragon member, who barely escaped when other members of the Cult turned on hime and his family. To escape he made a deal with Titania. She turned him to into a Teifling as an added bit of mummery. He's a Fey-pact Warlock.
  • My wife's character (Name Unknown)—a girl who travelled the Sword Coast with her dad, a trader. On his death bed he revealed he was a member of the Cult. She was mortified. A devout follower of Mask, and a girl of some skills, she inflitrated the Cult in order to take down the organization she sees as responsible for currupting her father.
  • Character 3 (Name Unknown)—A bard who travels the world, telling tales and righting wrongs. He does so, because he is making up for a grevious past sin. He still remembers bits and pieces of his life as a gold dragon, before Bahamut cast him down, but mostly he remembers how good gold tasted. He still takes a bite just to remember that life, from time to time.
  • Dim—A dwarven scholar of some reknown who, in a tragic turn of events, took severe trauma to the head. Afterward, he's never been quite right. His brother took him away from the other dwarves who didn't understand. But, recently, orcs made off with his brother. The people of Greenest have taken him in. Before he had some control over magic, now his magic is wild and untamed.

Thaumaturge.

Mily [Mill-E] was born in 1469 DR in eastern Amn north of the Tejarn Hills along the shore of lake Esmel in a tiny hidden village not appearing on most maps, where the ancient kingdom of Meiritin founded by halflings in 227 DR used to lay. Mily is a petite innocent looking girl with long curly brown hair, green eyes and a face and hands always covered of dirt. She learned to dual wield short swords with great speed and has astonishing precision with a sling, making her a very dangerous foe in combat when underestimated, even though she doesn't particularly like violence, she values the necessity knowing how to defend herself. But her sharpest weapon remain her silver tongue, being master at fast-talking people with honey words and velvet manners. Mily can easily pass for a human child and often adopt this disguise to go untoticed, taking on the identify of a young noble named Wendy, daughter of a duke, which got her in trouble for it. Mily suffer from attention deficit disorder and get bored quickly if not on the move or entertained as she is a little ball of energy going on all day until she drop of fatigue at night, hence the meaning of her name ''switch'' in halfling. Contrary to many mercenary, she advnture not to amass treasure or fame (thought she is really intrigued by magic) but to seek thrills and excitement. She'll happily pick a wortless multicolored stone disk over a plain looking gemstone worth a thousand more just because it shines, and so Mily is easily distracted (and lurred to) by things flashing. brightly colored or making curious noise! She likes to bypass locks and traps to crack things open or enter forbidden places and just the discovery of a secret passage is enought to fuel her imagination.

Zharik, Black Dragonborn barbarian, though not really 'dragonborn'. He's a result of an experiment by a tribal shaman to create an elite warrior group. But the ritual failed and the tribe was destroyed by a bunch of armoured warriors. Zharik's mother escaped and he's survived in the wild ever since...

Jack
Tiefling Divine Soul sorcerer
His mother was an Aasimar, his father an unknown fiend
The presence of celestial blood in him is enough to affect his magical abilities, but still less powerful than the fiendsih heritage in his appearance and other natural abilities. He was separated from his mother, in an event that he cannot recall, and found himself as a young-ish boy traveling aimlessly. He happened upon a wizard and priest of Bahamut, who saw his unique heritage and natural magical power, and out of a combination of curiosity and compassion, took him in as his pupil and adopted child.
Jack has very little recollection of his mother and his past few years before his new life began, and even is unaware of how old he is, an issue that is only exacerbated by his seemingly unchanging height of 5 feet 4 inches, and rather soft, childish voice and face.
After almost 6 years of training in harnessing his magical prowess, and honing his dexterity, and expert skills with both dart and dagger, he has set off on a quest, to achieve good and protect the world, to find his mother, to learn of his father (and punish him if deemed necessary) and even to help assuage the general public's dislike of tieflings.

Jack is a rather odd fellow, as he seems to have a severe case of ADHD, and possibly a tas of autism, either from random chance, or the unique mix of heritage he has confuddling his brain. He tends to be rather chaotic and random as well, and loves the catchphrase "you're not my dad!" as a response to anyone telling him what to do.
Still, he is quite compassionate, and most overly fond of hugs.
