UA- Defense Bonuses and Action Points?

First Post
Hey! I was wondering, Unearthed Arcana is OGL, right?

If so, could somebody post up the Defense Bonuses by Class lists, and Action Points by class? I'm still planning on getting the book(I've heard very good things) but that's a ways off until my LGS can get it back in stock and I'm starting a new D&D game soon that I wanted to include those in.

A *publisher* who follows the various legal agreements can include OGC in their products. That doesn't mean that everything that's OGC is automatically open to just being posted on the 'net or on the forums here.

Oh, my bad. Didn't realize.

It's kind of aggravating to keep going back and finding out that they're sold out everytime I go to the Game Room, but at least they're selling, right?

Does it bother thee if I at least ask how well the Defense Bonuses stack up, and whether or not the Action Points are different between classes?

Quick summary.

AP: 5 + 1/2 character level. Same as d20 Modern. Lot more uses though.

Def: Varies by armor gained by class only. Four charts. Starting number are like this: +2 (no armor), +3 (light), +4 (med), +6 (hvy). Shields stack, but armor doesn't. Multi-classers use the better chart for their character levels. (makes fighter/paladin/cleric levels almost must haves).

My personal fix is to ignore the armor guideline and the final (+6) column and assign the charts based on nimbleness and combat skills (wiz/sorc get +2, rogue, barbarian and ranger get +4, everyone else gets +3). Use the Star Wars "Second class is -2" rule for Multi-classing.

What if you just make the Defence Bonus equal the Base Attack Bonus?

Yes it does, Eric.

ANYONE can use the OGL, and quote, surmise, paraphrase, direct copy, etc. any Open Gaming Content that they want--provided that they include a copy of the OGL when they do so. (EnWorld may have different rules in the FAQ--but that's not what you said.)

The only reason that there aren't web pages and web pages of Open Gaming Content extracted from published works is that it's a lot of work for very little benefit--and the folk who know enough to do it right tend to want to work in the industry, and so don't want to waste months of their life on something that will not get them any money, and will alienate their potential employers and business partners.

Technically, the content could be posted here... so long as it included the complete Open Gaming Liscence and all provisions thereof, as well. :D

A bit of overkill, however.

{edit} Hrmp. That's what I get for posting after the phone dropped me an hour and a half ago. :P

So, how far up does the Defense Bonus go, eventually? I'm trying to get a gauge on this(although I imagine it's gotta be high to make up for the loss of bonuses from Magic Armor).

Do you think a feat that'd allow a character to add half the AC value of their armor to their AC+their Defense Bonus would be overpowered?

Usually FLGS allow customers to reserve a copy for them when the shipment comes. Ask the Game Room's retailer to put a hold on a future copy of UA and leave your phone number so they can notify you.

That would work I guess, but that would put some of the classes known for speed and dodging (rogue, monk, the latter I forgot in the good category). on par with heavily armed clerics. I was looking at it from the point of who is agile and in combat despite low AC? Good Defense. Who is either not in combat often or can where heavy armor? Medium. Who should avoid combat? Poor.

Though thinking about it, those classes who know the most about combat should know the most avoiding getting hit, but I digress.

Blackshirt, each goes in a X,X,Y,Y,Y,Z,Z, etc pattern, ending from +8 to +12.
