Wow!

I just finished out an amazing weekend at UBCON here in Buffalo, and I wanted to let everyone who is within driving range know that it is not to be missed next year. This little con is growing up and offering great great games and a slew of other madness to get caught up in.

I was fortunate enough to be one of their guests this year (along with Jess Hartley, of White Wolf fame, who really is too cool for words!) and the con staff is an amazing core of dedicated gamers who really know how to bring on the fun. I plan to be there every year with my new company Sinister Adventures, from here on out, running a slew of rpg events. Next year, I'll even bring a legion of GMs with me and offer all sorts of insanity (maybe even an Iron DM Buffalo!).

I highly recommend this convention to everyone who wants a weekend of gaming insanity! Under the astute eye of their Con Director Nikki Lewandowski and her wolverines, this sucker is only going to grow and grow. This year alone they already boosted the attendance to a whomping 250+, and they are quickly restoring UBCON to its former glory of the mid 90s (when I first attended as a wide-eyed high school kid). I wouldn't be surprised to see nearly a thousand people descend on the SUNY Buffalo campus for this next year. I know I'll be there and I'll be running D&D nonstop. Come check it out next year!

Glad to hear it was cool. Gotta be honest, I live in Buffalo, two miles from UB, and my whole group was on the fence about going... the lack of information about the con (not much at all on the website, no maps, no vender list, little or nothing but a listing of the gaming schedule) kinda waived us off. If it was cool, then damn it, I will kick myself pretty hard, since we all did other things. If they plan on growing, then they need to get proactive with drumming up the event a little more.

Anyone else go and see the cool?

I was there a few years ago with a few UB alumns and had a great time. They always have excellent LARPS. And the fact that you can actually sleep in the building (they have little rooms with sofas that can be closed off. I just put two together and locked the door) makes it even better.

I second Nick's Wow! and raise a Boy Howdy!

If you are local to the area and into gaming, go. If you are in the region and thinking about it, go.

As to accomodations, there are hotels within dedicated stumbling distance or a 5 minute drive of the registration desk. There is also plenty of room for pick up games and airport style crashing as the con overruns the student union of a large state university.

The con was great, and reflected a great amount of dedication from the organizers, con staff, and all the people running the individual events.

Add Nick Logue to equation (Iron DM, Paizo organized play, Sinister Adventures, OpenDesign) as a participant, and master of DM-fu, and watch the dice fly.

The other players were great in the events we played, and the atmosphere was fun, friendly, and laid-back frantic. In closing, go!

Looks like another case of you don't realize what you have in your own backyard...I'm a 92 alum and work less than 5 minutes from campus and didn't hit the con either for the same reason - the lack of publicity led me to believe it was not going to be all that well run...glad it appears I was mistaken. Love to see pics of the event if anyone has any...
