Uber archer?

D00d, the dragon is SUPPOSED to die. The only questions are how long it takes, and how many PCs it takes with it.

Yes but remember the name of the game is Dungeon's and Dragon's. Dragon's are the ultimate beasts here, outshined by nothing, not even the heroes. Which is why when a group of adventurers kills a dragon it is a big thing. Dragon's are extremely intelligent, they know the area they live in and what it's inhabitants are like and capable of. It seems like first of all this dragon was just way too easy to pick off. No offense it's just that it irks me when dragons seem too easy to kill and this one deffinately seemed like it, especially if the dragon was faced in it's lair. I'm not saying they should be impossible to kill, they should just be damn near impossible to kill.

Hmm.. If it's too easy to kill them, wouldn't that suggest that it's reasona
ble to toughen them up a bit?

sure toughen em up a bit, but don't make them uber tough

Why do you assume 300 points of damage is sufficient to kill a dragon?

I don't assume it is, even though most dragons do have under 300hp at various age catagories. Dealing 100 points of damage a round to a dragon is a different story though. This would never happen with a properly run dragon cuz first of all you wouldn't be able to hit it enough times to deal 100hp of damage in a round. Unless you're characters are built like a smackdown. This does exclude lucky rolls. It is very possible to deal 100+hp a round, but it will be rare.

How many times have you actually DMed a dragon encounter?

How many times have you actually DMed a dragon encounter?

tough question, can't really remember complete and total for all 3 editions, but in 3e alone, 4 or 5 in the two+ years that 3e has been out.

How many times have you actually DMed a high-level dragon encounter?

all of those times, the lowest level that our party of 6 was 15th. Taking stock dragons from the MM and just picking spells and treasure.

I don't believe you.

Believe what you want. I'm not here to tell you what to believe in or what to do. I'm just stating my own opinions and opinions that also seem to be shared by others. Dragon's are extremely intelligent, wise, and strong. They aren't push overs. If played correctly they will produce battles of epic proportions that will last a very very long time for even the most prepared group of adventurer's.

Then shut up.

Where did anyone say the dragon in question was a pushover?

If played correctly

Screw draconic correctness, I'm here to kick butt.

Where did anyone say this particular battle was not of epic proportions?
