What single, existing magic item would someone want to help defend a city against an invading army of undead (with some assorted large beasties helping)?

Against undead? Got any price limit/guidlines? A helm of brilliance isn't bad against a mob of skeletons or zombies- wipe out a 30' radius of them every couple of rounds. An orb of storms is pretty good against any massed force, regardless of species.

A Scroll of Gate should do the trick. You can just sit back and relax, while the called meanie crushes the whole army with Holy Words left and right and whatnot.

Assuming mostly low-to-mid CR undead, I'd be tempted to go with scrolls of Elemental Swarm (fire elementals) to get a large mob of combatants instead of a single Gate'd creature.

You should also look into scrolls/clerics to lay down (metamagiced) Forbiddances as perimiter defense.

Other items: Wand of Fireball, Staff of Fire, x of controlling y elementals, etc.

What does this "army of undead" made up of? Is it an actual army that can use tactics and planning, or just a really huge mob of skeletons and sombies?
