Ultimate Rifts. Improvement or Same Old Stuff?

KS just keeps outdoing himself! That guy's ego knows to bounds. At least it makes for funny reading. I nearly spit breakfast all over the screen when I read the part about all characters being balanced!

I don't know how Palladium is still in business....KS must be running guns/drugs/slaves on the side to make a profit. It seems that more and more poeple ditch this setting because of the rules.

He still has a large group of gamers that wait anxiously for anything coming down the pipeline. Couple that with smaller print runs and a release schedule that moves slower than a snail and he's able to stay in business. However, if this kind of shoddy product keeps coming out, the he may be in trouble. Doubtful, but possible.

Yep, the rules are quite a mess... However, I admit that I'm rather fond of the setting, despite it being an incoherent mishmash...

Same here. Too bad it will likely never become a coherent system while KS is still in charge.

Thanks folks,

That was pretty much what I expected, just a cash grab for Palladium.

Just as a funny note, Kevin S. was once asked how a certain rule worked. After he explained how it worked he went on to say "but in my game I've house rules it to work this way". Yes even Mr. Siembieda can't play his own game by the rules.

Indeed. Every time I try to give this guy and his (admittedly wonderful) setting a chance he flubs up again and the abysmal system destroys it for me. Thanks again Kevin!

Personally, I think the mishmash setting gives it a certain veritas- after all, planar intrusions and the rebirth of magic linked to a post-nuclear holocaust would hardly be orderly!

Great setting, but yeah...someone needs to clean up the rules!

True, but the lack of play balance- or even a nod to play balance- can easily ruin the fun for half the group while the glitterboy and juicer defeat the bad guys in two rounds. :\
