I wasn't exactly overblown with the art... some characters I thought were drawn really well (Nightcrawler, Angel, Collosus), but others really poorly (Wolverine, Cyclops, Xavier). I liked the colors a lot though. I just thought the entire thing was too... inconsistent.

The story... well, I'm not a fan of the "Nu-Marvel" pacing, as it's been dubbed. If they want to pace a story for the trades, then don't use a monthly format for it... just release it all at once. That said, I like how they are keeping with the movies, and I liked the total absence of Gambit.

I never thought Ultimate X-Men was all that good, although parts of Millar's run were excellent. Brian Vaughn is such a good writer, though, I'll give him an issue or two to hook me.

I consider Y: the Last Man to be one of the best comics of the last 5 years, easy...so I may actually come back to Ultimate X-men. I left at the end of the Proteus storyline, a while ago. Who killed Hank?

I like the new Mr. Sinister...he actually looks like he might be a 3-dimensional character. He's also loads scarier than the original. Interesting.

As for Gambit, did he ever make an appearance after that solo story? I always got the impression that that was essentially fan service. :)

The issues where Hank supposedly dies haven't come out yet. This is a bit of a spoiler.

And no, Gambit hasn't made any more appearances, but that doesn't mean he can't. That's up to the creative team on the book.

I don't regularly read the comic, and in fact haven't read any of the Ultimate line, though my friend is a big fan of them. He works at a bookstore though, so he usually reads them there and doesn't buy them.
