If you're going to be gating, you may as well get 33 Latnern Archons instead. 66d6 damage per round should drop it in thre rounds. With its touch AC of 0 it should be fairly easy to hit.

Of course, if you happen to be a character who is averse to getting celestials killed, you'll need to find another route.
Well, lanterns have a crappy range. Ghaeles can fire their bolts from waaaay outside the AMF.

My main concern (like you said) is (avoiding) dead celestials. No angry angels here.

The problem with the colossus is that a character must virtually be designed to kill it, and otherwise nearly any character will be utterly destroyed unless they're much higher level or very very lucky. Remember that the antimagic field goes out 100 feet, so digging holes beneath it is a no-no. You could just try to do large amount of damage to it and hope to nickel and dime it down, but youre going to have to do a hell of a lot of hp damage, and don't go banking on critical hits (or any magical equipment you happen to have) to help you out, either. When talking about this with a fellow player of mine, we could only think of two ways to reliably beat the DR of a colossus...either an epic forsaker (or a nonepic one with 11/+5 DR and the penetrate DR feat), or a sacred fist with a pretty good base wis score. Add to that the techsmith ability, and thats only 3 ways that I've heard of in the whole game that can actually beat their DR. Of course, there are other ways to get around the DR, antimagic field, whatever (that ghaele thing...), but they're all pretty contrived. The point is, any normal party of 33rd level will most likely not be reasonably equipped to fight an iron colossus, even with time to prepare...not to mention that I hardly think that a colossus will just stand there while he gets shot at from 100 feet away, and keep in mind that breath weapon is pretty damn nasty.

Remember the Iron Colossus from Jason and the Argonauts? That thing could only be killed by a fluke achilles heel. Otherwise the heroes ran when they saw it, and they had Hercules with them! Some things are just that tough. Why must every opponent have some sure-fire way to take it out in five rounds?

I think they are just saying a fully equiped party of 4, at level 33, don't have a shot of defeating a CR 33 creature. Recall that a party of 4 people at level X need only expend a quarter of their resources to defeat a CR X critter. The Colossus appears to be 10 or 20 CR ratings too low....

Of course, this game involves a lot of magical effects for power, but do you even consider what a 33rd level party will be able to do!?

I'm really pretty sure, that an average (now if there is such a thing) 33rd level party will have some means to deal with it available (maybe not readily available, but even that is quite likely)!

And I really like the last comment by Kai Lord. Yes, there should be things out there, that you better run from (the Tarrasque is probably meant to be one, but they obviously failed on that one). Ok, it's tough to create something, that is not simply a god or immune to everything and more, which will not be easy to beat by a whole party of high level characters.

Not having the ELH, I'm sure there are holes here.

But it seems it should be possible for an Epic Archer to do in excess of 30 damage with a non-critical arrow, and get off half a dozen or more in a round - penetrating DR the hard way.

It might be plinking... but attrition works wonders, and an Epic bowman is going to be attacking from a lot further out than a breath weapon, I'm sure.

Does the Colossus have a hideous regeneration or fast healing rate as well?
