Unbodied plus Practiced Manifester

Hello all.

I'm currently playing an Unbodied Psion. ECL12th, psion level 8.

If I take the Practiced Manifester feat (from the Complete Psionic book) does that mean she'll be ECL12, psion level 12?

What's the penalty (apart from 4 ranks in Psicraft)? This feat seems rather unbalanced to me, as it appears to cancel the 4-level adjustment for playing an Unbodied.

What have I missed here?

This feat does not affect your powers per day​

or powers known. It only increases your manifester level,

Your access to higher lv powers is still delayed. You can still augment lower lv powers, but they probably won't be as strong as higher lv ones.

Shouldn't that be ECL 16? Unbodied have 4 racial HD.

Apart from that, there's nothing wrong with Practiced Manifester since it only increases your manifester level (see above).

I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear in my original post: I acknowledge that I won't know any extra powers, or gain other benefits from advancing in levels. But the powers I do use (up to 4th level ones) will be as if I'm 12th level: that is what seems rather unbalanced to me. I get the gist from your responses that that is indeed how it's meant to work, and I had interpreted the description correctly.

It still won't stop my group howling with outrage and trying to feed me my d20s, though. Still, I can face my doom with equanimity, knowing that right - or at least, the law - is on my side. I can see my normally sanguine GM putting his foot down with this feat, actually, and I can't say I'd particularly blame him.

Is there a concensus about whether it increases PPs too? The text suggests that it would.

So you're an Unbodied Telepath-4 (manifesting as a Telepath-8), then?

Then you've got a problem: "This benefit can't increase your manifester level higher than your Hit Dice" - and you've got LA +4, 4 racial hit dice, and 4 class hit dice - 8 total hit dice, and you already have a manifester level equal to that. Now, if you were a Psion-5/Uncarnate-X, it wouldn't be a problem.
