For cross-dressing: yes a lot of female characters dress in trousers and shirt but it's not dress-up wear, it's a casual version of male clothing. Fancy male dress would be different enough.

With the invitation idea it's hard to see how it would work out in practice. How are invitations delivered anonymously? Does it mean only couples can attend? Does everyone sign up instead and get randomly assigned to someone else? That would mean the assigner has to come up with all the outfit ideas. But the matching outfits should probably be posted in either case (although accidental duplications would allow for some fun roleplaying). It doesn't have to be just matching colors, it could be "hat with a feather" or "long black cloak" which allows for more variation.

Dressing opposite to your normal style is simplest to put into effect. Though I suspect people would skew it to match their tastes anyway.

I see no point at all to the cross-species dance. That would look like any other evening in the tavern.

I like the girls asking guys dance idea. Girls can easily wear guy clothing, but guys wearing dresses...that's creepy! I know the last thing you want to see is Zeren wearing a skirt. Or am I not understanding this wearing opposite stuff?

You do not necessarily have to cross-dress your partner..

Just dress them in their opposite..

A female who usual prefers slacks and pants, could find herself in a dress.. that would really be her opposite..

Or as Rajak said, a Celestial dressed as a fiend, things like that..

I was doing some thinking on the invitation thing, and after reading some of the posts addressed towards the idea:

Everyone could attend, it would be basically like..hmm how to describe...example time! :D

susy gets an invitation delivered to her by a man she has never met, and she opens said invitation. It asks for her attendance to the dance, and then gives a short description as to what said 'secret date' will be wearing or how to identify them, once at the dance. Invitations can be given verbally, via a messenger of some sort, or delivered indirectly with a written invitation, either on the cork boards, or delivered by a messenger as well.

The whole 'effect' i was going for, basically, was that your character will not know who is asking them, could be an orc, could be a same sex character, could be your spouse, could be someone you hate, could be a secret crush etc. So until they show up at the dance, they won't know who it is. Finding out, is half the excitement ...And i think could lead to really interesting rp at the dance.

Soooooooo, even if someone doesn't get an invitation, they could still attend. As to what type of 'attire' to wear, i haven't figured that bit out...But i really do like the 'blind date' type of idea...

So er..there ya go. My idea..revised..and stuff. :D

Excellent ideas all..

Shall we have a vote, or shall the good Nashira pick one?

hehe, it's good to have advance warning, so we can plot ahead.

Well I have to have all the info to Adele  by Monday, so if you want to vote, make it quick! :twitch:

Well, since there have been no replies, I think I'll just go ahead and make a decision.

*ducks the rotten fruit*

I like the "Dress your opposite" idea. Now, It doesent have to mean that you dress your partner, or dress in clothes of the opposite sex (though it could). It means that if a female character usually dresses in pants and shirt in a masculine way she should wear something extremely feminine for the occasion and men who are usually scrubby should wear the finest silks, velvets and furs. Or you can as a female dress in men's fancies or have men dress in women's finest gowns. Whatever strikes your fancy...I think you get the idea. I think we'll do this as a masked event so that you dont have to show your face in your attire as most will probably feel out of their element. And the anonymity will make it more difficult to pick out people you know!

Special thanks to Dontella for the idea!!
