Has anyone seen the new Fiery Dragon tin? It's an undead collecton. Anyone get it? What's in it? Is it worth having if you have their other counter sets?

My brother picked it up last week (a shame he didn't pick up the Battle box at the same time, but we ordered it from a different gaming store and didn't realize his distributor was out of stock).
It comes with a book with 8 new monsters, two of which are tempates - the Stone Behemoth (animated fossilized dinosaurs and such) and the Netherlord. All were designed by Claudio.
It is listed as having over 200 counters and I count 37 large (many of which are skeletons and zombies of large creatures), 15 huge creatures and 2 gargantuan creatures (the nightcrawler & the "necromass"). There are a several monsters that I don't remember their source (for example, the above mentioned necromass and the "Brain, preserved"), but they all have an undead feel. There are also counters for things like bat swarms, various ghosts ("halfling ghost"), rats & rat swarms, lots of variations on skeletons and zombies (skeleton red dragon, skeleton naga, zombie wyvern, zombie grey render).
There is also a battlemat included with it depicting a cemetary. It's average as far as such things go (not glossy paper, black & white, slightly better than average paper stock), but still pretty nice.

First of all, CC Undead comes with every single undead from the SRD. That includes every single variation of skeleton and zombie from the SRD (skeleton chimera, skeleton owlbear, zombie gray render, zombie minotaur). Several of the core undead have brand new artwork. The aforementioned skeletons and zombies, plus ghoul, shadow, mummy, mummy lord, spectre, wraith, dread wraith and others receive brand new artwork for the first time since CC1!
Ghosts and Vampires of every core race, so you have human, halfling, elf, half-orc, dwarf and gnome. Half-elves can choose between human and elf counters... Liches come in cleric, wizard, drow, elf and gnome varieties.
There are several surprise undead, like the Preserved Brain and the Evil Reaper (both will seem familiar for those who have seen the "Grim & Evil Show" on Cartoon Network...
). Others include the Decaying Angel, Atrophied Scion, Banshee, Spectral Bard...
And there's the 16-page booklet with 8 new undead. This list comes from the CCUndead site:
- Chilling Bones: a deadly opponent encased in a whirlwind of ice;
- Forsaken Slain: berserkers deemed unworthy of Valhalla;
- Lingering Arcane: spellcasters that weren't quite ready for lichdom;
- Netherlord: the warrior counterpart of the lich;
- Pyre Archer: undead war criminals;
- Spirit of Despair: a spectre that preys on mortals' hopelessness;
- Stone Behemoth: fossilized titans of a bygone era;
- Plague Zombie: enraged, foaming creatures that spread undeath like a disease.

Hi Glyfair, I want to comment on the battlemat paperstock here as I think it is a bit better than you think
. To do it full colour would have added 50% to the print cost so unfortunately we had to stick to 1 colour for it - plus we thought it would suit a graveyard combat anyway. The paper itself is actually quite high quality - it's not a regular offset bond. Technically it is a 70# New Life Vellum stock which I had to do research to obtain - it is the same stock used to produce many maps. The fibres in the paper are such that it can survive many fold and refolds - and I had to order directly from the mill as the paper is not a stock item from most paper suppliers. As such it was much more expensive than normal paper. In addition to the single colour, we added an aqueous coating which, though razor thin and hard to notice, actually protects the paper yet again by surving longer through greasy fingers and the like.That's all I want to say - it took me a while to settle on battlemat paper and it really is slightly better than average but albeit from a 'hidden' point of view. I wish I could do it in colour though!

I do have to add that after seeing Claudio's art on this, I desperately want to run an adventure with a vampire gnome as the big bad -- lots of clues leading up to the revelation, such as dead victims with bite marks behind their knees...

That's one of the things I love about these boards. The publishers are here too so they can often chime in.
Still, it could be me, but did anyone else know this was coming out, or did it kind of just slip under the radar? I try to keep informed on what's coming out so I can budget the funds but when I see stuff like this on the game shelf I'm like, "Hello there.... and you're name is..."

It was a complete surprise to me. I try to keep on top of the upcoming counter collections so I can preorder them at my FLGS, and I didn't even know this one was coming out until last week.JoeGKushner said:
