Underdark Overview, aka Return of Drow Weaponry

The drow are only a sliver of the info on the book. Lots of stuff on all the other underdark races. The drow are a prominent race, but WotC said from the beginning that this is not a DROW book but an underdark book. Lots of Kuo-toa info, lots of illithid info, etc.

Example, two different kuo-toa specific prestige classes.

Race section has info on Chitine, Deep Imaskari, Duergar, Gloaming, Grimlock, Kuo-toa, Slyth, and Svirfneblin as well as quick ECL guides to play Derro, Mind Flayer (ECL 15!), Minotaur, Orog, Quaggoth, Tanarukk, and Trogs.

Really my mind is drow centric since I am running CotSQ, so it probably flavored my skimming, check it out for yourself.

Oh and I would rate the quality of the map 'good' for an inbook map, and by looking I would say a majority of the features are non-drow.

Derro are listed as an other race to be played. They are 3 hit with a +1 level adjustment, meaning total beginning ECL of 4. Favored class Sorceror.

The map is in book, not pull out or fold up or anything. It will certainly due for its purpose (to locate Underdark features under realms features). It has the realms really dark beneath it and has the Underdark stuff printed on top.

Sounds perfect for my Night Below game. Thanks for the information. Hopefully I will have my copy in a day or two.

I will buy the book just for the info on the Imaskari.
They are my favorite *race* since I got into FR.
Interesting to read that there is a PrC for them.
Can you tell me what the Deep Imaskar PrC is?
What is the PrC like and what are the benefits?

Actually the Deep Imaskari are the race. The PrC is called the Imaskari Vengeance Taker.

The Deep Imaskari get a +2 int, -2 dex. The have a spd of 30 ft, are medium size, have low-light vision, spell clutch (recall a 1st level spell 1/day), and +4 hide underground. Their favored class is wizard.

The Vengeance Taker is a rogue/arcane cross over class. It gets poison use, sneak attack, arcane casting (every other level), death attack, far sense (like clairaudience/clairvoyance), seeker (divination), scry target and Target of Vengence.

The last one is the really big part of the class. Damage bonus vs that target of 1+class level (it says 2 + 1 for each additional level of the class... same difference). Rituals taking a day to declare a target and new target may be declared after old one dies or after three days of rituals are done to get rid of the old one.

Note, other than sneak attack, most of the class abilities (scry, death attack, etc) are only usable on the Target of Vengeance.

Gloamings are planetouched beings descendant from natives or toril and the plane of shadows. Pale skinned humanoid with catlike eyes and furry wings. Skin is naturally luminescent, though the gloaming can control its level of illumination from none to as bright as a torch.

Slyth are humanoid shapechangers thought to be genasi descended from human pairings with earth and water elementals. They can assume an amorphous (read blob!) form as a standard action. In that form they are immune to crits, can not be flanked, etc. Can not attack in that form but is nearly fluid and boneless, enabling passage through small holes and narrow openings as small as 2 inches in diameter. Assuming normal form is a full round action that does not provoke an AoO. Can use amorphous form only 10 minutes/level. They can also breathe underwater.

Hmpf the PrC is not what I expected......doesnt sound very appealing. I hoped for something funkier. Anyway what is the Vengeance Taker for? What is the background of this PrC....the Netherese?
Do they send them to kill of Netherese survivors?
Or to scare the shýt out of the other underdark races not to mess with the Imaskari?

Race Chart 1:
52106_CN.jpg

I'm guessing: Chitine, Imaskar, and drow.

Race Chart 2:
52107_CN.jpg

Still guessing: Duergar, Grimlock, Gloaming (?), Kuo-toa

Race Chart 3
52108_CN.jpg

Last guess: Svirfneblin, Slyth (?), Derro.

I've no idea what are gloamings and slyths, so I've associated the names with the two creatures I havn't recognized. Could be wrong in the association, tough.
