Unearthed Arcana for 3.5 from WOTC!

Eh, WotC can call it "Unearthed Arcana" all they want but it won't really be the same book unless all of the pages start falling out within the first week.

ROTFLMAO!

Mine did it in sections, and wouldn't you know that the appendix on polearms was the last to go...

Still got my copy and it's very much intact and in fine condition...

S'funny, my (or rather, my wife's) copy of UA is still in perfect (though not pristine) condition, even after almost 20 years of being lugged from one game sesssion to another and used frequently.

Sounds like a good idea to me. There are several things I'd like to see.

  • Wound/Vitality hit point system
  • More flexable magic (and metamagic) system.
  • Info for "grittier" gaming.
  • Specific critical hits.
  • Called shots.
  • Armor absorbtion and defense ratings for classes. (See Star Wars Revised)
  • Official rules for leveling magical items.
  • Possibly new multiclassing options that deal with the crippled multiclassed spellcaster issue.
  • Paladins as a prestige class.
  • Varients for existing classes. (ie Urban Ranger)

Hey... I'd love it if WotC put out a new Wilderness Survival Guide..!

As for UA, depending on what it is, I'll probably buy it over a non WOTC optional ruleset. Just the way I am... (and yes, I buy tons of products from non-WOTC publishers, and use non-contradictionary rules from them).

THE MIMIR SPEAKS

Here is my prediction.

I think the Unearthed Arcana will include:

Variant forms of:

Combat, Spellcasting, Classes, Economics, and collected rules stuff that is not in the 3.5 rulebooks but has shown up in dragon and has not made it into a hardcover. Expect Gear, Spells, and magic items also.

THE MIMIR HAS SPOKEN

Aaron.

I'll look at it of course, but this kinda reminds me of the whole Tome of Horrors/Fiend Folio dispute of a few weeks back.

WOTC, said naw, we won't be doing these monsters in the forseeable future...then BLAM a year later there they are. the whole timing there is very screwy.

IIRC Monte asked WOTC to use the name "AU", and they said "sure, no prob" (probably thinking, that title had a fairly negative image in the 1E days, we won't ever use it)

And now as the furor is building for Monte's "variant book" out in a few months, WOTC decides to release a similar themed title under the name "UA"?.

Seems fishy to me...

I would like to see a variant on Armor as a damage absorber rather than something that makes you harder to hit. A hard blow that does not cause HP damage could still stun you or knock you down.
