Unnatural sight: A new spell that needs help please.

I'm trying to create a spell that would allow someone to see who or what has been moving through a local. At first it should show whether people have been though the area, then number, power of creatures, and maybe what they are.

It is not my intention for any of you to creat this spell for me, or to outshine the tracking ability of the ranger.

This is what I have so far.

Unnatural sight
Divination
Level: Druid 4, Ranger 2, Sor/wiz 4
Components:
Casting time: Standard action
Range: Personal
Effect: 60ft circular emanation
Duration: 1 round/level.
Saving Throw: No
Spell resistance: No

With this spell you view all the movements of the past hour. This only includes living creatures and does not include moving objects, undead or constructs. One the first round you become aware if any creatures have been in the area in the past hour. In the next round you get an idea of the number of creatures, although you receive no clear indication the number forms in you head like an old memory.

After another rounds you begin to see coloured silhouettes outlining where the movement took place, with stronger forms indicating more time spent in that area, whereas fainter shapes indicate a speedier pace. Although it is easy enough to make a comment about this to your party it takes the skill of someone with the Track feat to analyse it further.

In three rounds time the caster becomes away of the silhouettes changing colour revealing some small information. If the creature was heavily injured they’re silhouette may appear weaker, whilst a happy creature’s silhouette may appear to glow, and a creature that had just run into a large amount of money might glitter

How about this? A spell to let you see smells. If you've ever read the Watch series of Terry Pratchet's Discworld, you'd find that what you want sounds exactly like the discription of Angua's sight while in wolf form. Angua, by the way, being a werewolf.

Basically, it gives you a 4D view of the world. You don't just see people, you see where they've been, where they stood for a while, each smell a different color. I'm not quite sure the level such a thing should be though.

Thats part of my inspiration for the spell, I imagined where the person was as a kind of purple silhouette.

What I meant by 'how it should waork' is should it revealwhere people where straight away? Require a wisodm check? That is where I need the help.

I've put my foot down and told myself I shouldn't worry about what happens when I write the first time, and so I wrote the spell, I'm still unsure about the components but thats more because it doesn't matter much.

I do remember either a spell of a psionic thingey that let you swap senses around so you could see smell but only smell sights. It'd be cool to make a spell that would make a sense dominate though. The way that hearing is for bats and sight for us.

I remember the "Quintssential Sorcerer' from Mongoose Pub. Having a similar spell. It was classed as an illusion, had a specific range eminating for the casted (so you could move with the image, but others disappear as they are left behind), and would not show inanimate objects (in the example they give, you can see two children pantimiming kicking a ball back and forth to each other).

I don't get the spell you describe, what does it do?

Oh I'll add that it's a Divination.

It's almost identical to your spells first ability. It allows you to see the actions of those who were in a particular area (an emination effect centered on the caster) at a pre determined time in the past (based on the caster level). I think the duration is one minute per caster level. You can only see images of living beings. You can follow images to keep them in range, but that would mean losing sight of other images as they pass out of range.

I think it's called 'Vision of the lost hour' or some such.

The spell was cllassed as divination/illusion.
