D&D 4E Unnecessary monster appearance changes in 4e

Are you saying this change is going to make people stop buying minis, why would WotC think that is a good idea?

Probably because they hope the effect will be quite the opposite.
I guess I'm getting more and more confused by your reaction to this and would like some clarification about the apparent irritation you have over WotCs decision to redesign the minis.

Do you collect minis and need to own every one they produce?
Do you play the minis game and are concerned that they are updating the look and stats for 4e, so you have to buy new ones
Do you play tabletop D&D RPG and use the minis for your game and for some reason you cannot use an old one?

I'm just not seeing where the grand conspiracy is here.

It's a really pathetic attempt to make people buy the upcoming reboot of the minis line.

 I dunno man, if anyone thinks that WotC's grand marketing scheme is to get people to buy miniatures by changing how some of the monsters look is being short sighted. You change the look of monsters and races and such because you think it looks better.

WotC changed the look of everything from 2e to 3e and they didn't really have a line of miniatures then. Why would you think that's part of their regime now?

Just a slight tangent point here -

They actually ARE changing the rules of the D&D Minis game to be more like 4e. It's been mentioned in quite a few developer blog entries, actually. I have no idea what this means for people who play DDM in tournaments, but that might be a legit beef - though if you're a tournament player I think that the "tournament legal" minis cycle out after a year or so anyway, don't they?

I know, and that is why I asked if DragonBelow was playing the minis game. He seems to be focused on the look, rather than the rules, so I don't think that is what he's getting at. I'm trying to figure out what the real problem he has with this change and why he thinks it will somehow make people buy more minis.

All minis are tournament legal, they have only retired one mini, and it was because its abilities were broken

I think my problem is, I can't justify buying them on the appearance changes alone, I don't care about the minis game itself anymore. So I won't buy them.

Really? That's actually pretty cool - I figured they would force them off the table after a set time period, like some other tournament games do.

Also, it looks like Steve Schubert answered what they are going to do with the minis - pick the top 60 "All Star" minis to give updated DDM stats to. I guess the rest will fall by the wayside - for the DDM game at least.

Ah - sorry, I misunderstood your list. On re-reading it, I'm not sure how exactly I misunderstood it since it's quite clear what you meant, but I must have.

And that's fine. There's plenty of things I'm not going to buy, either!*

*4E isn't one of those things.

If you're about to say that the new dragon looks better, slap yourself in the face, as they have already accomplished what they wanted.

I don't see anyone arm twisting me to buy minis, and 4E is still not linked to the minis. I can't imagine why anyone would think there would be no appearance changes to monsters.
