Update on Damon's (lung cancer kid) condition

Here is the latest update on Damon from my church MB. Auctions should be going up sometime next week.

"In less than 2 weeks, Damon has lost 4 pounds. Considering he only weighs 31 pounds, that's a big percentage of his body weight. The sores in his throat are preventing him from even drinking water, let alone eating any kind of food. He's refused popsicles, juice, ice cream...everything. They're pumping nourishment through his IV while his throat heals. Hopefully, once the sores have gone, he will begin to eat again on his own. Otherwise, they'll need to run a gavage tube through his nose and down his throat into his stomach to provide enough food. He has spiked another fever, which requires that they stay in the hospital at least another 24 hours. Apparently, a severe reaction occurs after a certain type of chemo that he's recently received. This treatment is administered every 6 weeks, and then the symptoms manifest about 2 weeks later. The severe symptoms typically last about a week. Damon is in the middle of this painful, scary week right now. Please pray that his sores heal quickly and that he doesn't spike anymore fevers. Pray that he will be able to eat on his own and put weight back on again so he can FIGHT this illness!!!!! Thanks everyone so much."

Thanks to everyone that told me to keep some of it. But the thing is, I never touch it. I just buy it. If my interest in gaming is rekindled, I can always rebuy my favorite books. Thats what collectors are for. I have tried to keep some of it, and it just doesn't work. Keeping one book leads to keeping others and pretty soon the whole collection. No, I need to walk away completely.

"Ye elves of hills, brooks, standing lakes and groves,
And ye that on the sands with printless foot
Do chase the ebbing Neptune and do fly him
When he comes back; you demi-puppets that
By moonshine do the green sour ringlets make,
Whereof the ewe not bites, and you whose pastime
Is to make midnight mushrooms, that rejoice
To hear the solemn curfew; by whose aid,
Weak masters though ye be, I have bedimm'd
The noontide sun, call'd forth the mutinous winds,
And 'twixt the green sea and the azured vault
Set roaring war: to the dread rattling thunder
Have I given fire and rifted Jove's stout oak
With his own bolt; the strong-based promontory
Have I made shake and by the spurs pluck'd up
The pine and cedar: graves at my command
Have waked their sleepers, oped, and let 'em forth
By my so potent art. But this rough magic
I here abjure, and, when I have required
Some heavenly music, which even now I do,
To work mine end upon their senses that
This airy charm is for, I'll break my staff,
Bury it certain fathoms in the earth,
And deeper than did ever plummet sound
I'll drown my book(s)."

First of all, I'll be watching for the auctions and will include Damon in my prayers. Learning something like this happening to a 3-year-old is heartbreaking. I know you are doing what you need to do.

In regards to your stuff...I can relate. Last year, I was diagnosed with major depression and had to be put in the hospital. Prior to going in, I had lost my gaming spark and sold absolutely everything on eBay. Since then, I've been treated and feel better, and the gaming spark is back strong. Do I regret selling my stuff? Well, maybe a little, but it is not a big deal to me in light of life's bigger picture. In the long run, people tend to regret more what they did not do (but could have) as opposed to taking some kind of action. You are doing this for Damon; a noble/kind cause.

Since then I've bought some stuff back---just the stuff I really want. My thoughts will be with Damon and his family.

Here is an update on Damon's condition. Its from my church's message board. Please keep him in your prayers.

Damon's Mom said:
Damon keeps throwing up his feeding tube. He's thrown up four in the past week and a half! He needs the nutrition because he's lost so much weight. A new one will be inserted tomorrow (this will be the 5th time it has been inserted). We've even switched the type of tube being used and still he's throwing them up.

We are still going to the hospital quite a bit - we finished our 5 day chemo treatment on tuesday then came back to the hospital tuesday night at 9:30pm because he had thrown up his feeding tube and it needed to be reinserted ASAP. We go back again tomorrow for a clinic visit and labs.

UPDATE.

The current condition has not changed much. Damon and his mom are looking for a new place to live closer to the hospital and without a mold problem. The major problem now aside from the side effects of surgery and kemo is that everytime they find a place the rug keeps getting pulled out from under them. The reason this keeps happening is that they cant get the money into the hands of the renter fast enough to secure the place.

Hopefully this is where the auctions will come in.

If you guys can help in any way in getting these auctions to increase, please do so!

The auctions will be posted in the marketplace and I will add a link to the fist post in this thread.

Aaron.

This site is one of the best. It has tons of information on the various types of cancer. Most importantly, it has mailing lists. You can network with other patients and their families and get info, prayers and support.

I'll post more later. Hard to do this at work.
