Update on Damon's (lung cancer kid) condition

Man, I can't imagine having to live in a country in which one must pay out of pocket for chemotherapy for a 3 year old kid. I hope that people chip in and your auctions go well. I have a very young child myself, so I can imagine how terrifying this must be for the family, especially the mother.

Subscribed, and looking forward to the auctions.

Health insurance will only go so far, providing they have any at all....

Our health system is too dependent on people having health insurance, which is expensive for those of us on low incomes but make too much to get medicare.

I hope things go well for the kid. Chemo can be rough on anyone, never mind a child his age. Maybe, to make him feel better, have any friends shave their heads to show their support of him during this time. I've seen people do that at times. Makes the one going thru the chemo keep from feeling awkward due to the resulting hair loss...

UPDATE.

The current condition has not changed much. Damon and his mom are looking for a new place to live closer to the hospital and without a mold problem. The major problem now aside from the side effects of surgery and kemo is that everytime they find a place the rug keeps getting pulled out from under them. The reason this keeps happening is that they cant get the money into the hands of the renter fast enough to secure the place.

Hopefully this is where the auctions will come in.

If you guys can help in any way in getting these auctions to increase, please do so!

The auctions will be posted in the marketplace and I will add a link to the fist post in this thread.

Aaron.

Maybe his mother should get ahold of the Ronald McDonald Foundation that does provide some sort of housing while a child is in the hospital. That may help if housing hasn't been found yet.

In the past month there have been some developments most are positive. The only negative development aside from the fact that Damon now only occasionally looses his feeding tube after a reound of treatment is that his mother is developing insomnia.

Everything else is going well. The Hospital has agreed to cover the portions of the costs that the insurance will not, so the child WILL get treatment.

The problem is that Damon's mother is not wealthy. Our church has found a place for them to live and through the donations of the body, their housing and living expenses are covered for the next year. This permits her to put full time care towards Damon. We don't know how long Damon will need treatment so any more money that can be raised will help.

My only frustration is that the people putting up the auctions seem only to be able to put up two at a time...

More auctions are up. These are some good ones: Living Greyhawk journals, Rules Cyclopedia, Adventure Path, etc.

We are moving Damon and his mother to a new home tomorrow. Pray it does not rain.

The best auctions were saved for last. The new ones up are My 1st Ed collection (very very good) and my Dungeon collection (almost complete 3rd ed) and many of the best issues of 1e/2e. Including a very rare dungeon #1.

This past weekend we got Damon and his mother moved to a new house way closer to the Hospital. This is a good thing. Things are generally progressing as they have been. Damon is about to go into his heaiest treatments to date (I keep hearing this but, I don't know if they get heavier and heavier or if it is the same treatment, just getting closer and closer).

So far, the auctions have brought in about $700 for Damon. There are about 21-23 more auctions coming.

I just spoke to Damon's mother at church last evening and Damon just got done with another visit to the hospital. The cancer was actually inside the lung and on part of his diaphram. They have removed the lower lobe of one of his lungs and the part of his diaphram that was cancerous. Soon they will be putting Damon through more treatments of Kemo to keep it from coming back. Keep him in your prayers.

I thank anyone who has maintained interest in all of this. More auctions are forthcoming.

Aaron
