If you go the Athlon route, I'd highly recommend getting a better fan. The stock fans for Athlons seem to be a tad bit underpowered, and are pretty damn noisy to boot. I'm a die hard fan of the Noise Control Silverado, but that might be a bit much for your needs. If fan noise is an option, you might want to consider getting a fan control device of some sort. Also: check your airflow in your case. Are you getting enough intake from the front and lower portions of your case, and is your exhaust on the top/back?

Remember that the silverado is not compatible with newer nForce athlon motherboards, because the holes round the socket isn't there anymore.

Will you be using your current case? Just making sure. I just built a new rig mostly from parts from www.googlegear.com (everything but the case). Didn't cost all that much. I'd check them for HD and memory prices...

I almost went Dell, but I am ordering Psionicist recommendation this weekend.

After waiting almost two weeks and having my order still not ship, I cancelled my order. I immediately called the CC company to make sure i was never invoiced.

I have now placed a new order with Googlegear and saved nearly 100 bucks. Partly because no shipping fees. Thanks for the recommendations guys. Hopefully I will get my stuff next week.
