[Urban Arcana] Books and pockets of Shadow

Ages ago, I ran a Weird Wars campaign. One of the big revelations of the game was that the realm of Faerie the PCs had been dealing with off and on throughout the game was actually contained within a single book, which could be altered by a talented mortal with a pen. (Shakespeare was mentioned as one of the book's past custodians.)

I've been toying with the idea of expanding the idea for my upcoming Urban Arcana game; having certain individual copies of certain fictional works function as portals into pocket realms of Shadow. This would let me use certain d20 material without having it overwhelm the game world. For instance, if the palyers get their hands ona signed first edition copy of the pulp Sci-Fi novel "Iron Lords of Jupiter", they'd be able to cross over and have an adventure there, while there's a particular DVD of the first season of the popular anime "Mecha Crusade" which works as a portal to that universe.
