Urban Arcana TV series?

Because instead of getting no TV show, we get a TV show?

It's a lot cheaper to shoot in Canada for various reasons. Like 30-50% cheaper. So the choice is generally either having a show shot in Canada, or not having a show at all...

(I would also point out, the US unemployment rate is something like 5.5%, the Canadian is actually quite a bit higher at 6.9%.)
Yeah, cheaper for the production company. After all, they're the ones footing the bill, and if resources, including human, are cheaper there than anywhere inside the US, I'd do it in a heartbeat ... that is, if I am a tie-wearing, Hutt-minded, greedy "suit." :]

You've got to factor in the exchange rate too though, one Canadian Person is only worth like, .75 of an American Person. :)

Sounds interesting. I'll catch it when it's on. It sorta reminds me of Buffy mixed with the short lived Vampire Fox series mixed with X-Files.

I'm not seeing any downside to another fantasy series shooting in New Zealand and using a New Zealand stunt crew...?

Put me through university, that did!

Sounds good to me! I don't know how many movies were shot in New Zealand but I enjoyed the scenery of both Lord of the Rings and Last Samurai.

Good for Canadian economy ... sucks for us Americans.

Kindly educate me why outsourcing is a good thing for us?

If it was a cheesy series about angels, they can shoot it in Salt Lake City.

BTW, wasn't the majority of X-Files shot in British Columbia?

The theory is that is frees Americans from doing menial labor that all those degenerate foreigners can handle and focus on the real important stuff.

You know. Like unemployment.

Hmm....being a Canadian, this doesn't really bother me....:) Would be nice, however, if they weren't trying to pass Vancouver or Toronto off as New York though, especially when many of us can plainly see it's not.

'Sides which, at least this way, the show gets made.

Yes, for most of its history, X-Files was filmed in BC. Moved to the U.S. when David Duchovny married Tea Leoni, I believe. The show was never the same afterwards, as the sets/scenes etc. became much too bright and sunny, given the darker nature of the show. Didn't quite feel the same afterwards.

now what would really trip me out is if they used the npcs mentioned in the book, cause then i would end up being a character =)
(Stan! put me in as Dr. Shivam Bhatt (on page 272 or so) for a birthday gift. It's hardcore awesome =)

Nobody said it was. Coming from the land of "the big labor union" I can guarantee that they're not claiming outsourcing is good for "us" as Joe Blow Americans.

It is good for the companies though. American labor is too expensive in certain industries. Either you outsource, or you get out of the industry because you can't make a profit in it. America is very rapidly moving into a services-based economy. Actual real work for commensurate pay is a thing of the past in our country.

But that's the simple economics of it. Anything else I'd say would be political, and hence verboten.

Heh, this is gonna be fun, trying to convert the characters in the show to their D20 Modern equivalents.

*Although I have no real knowledge of the mechanics for D20 Modern beyond standard DND 3.x.

I think it would be interesting if they have an episode which deals with the past/alternate fantasy setting where they incorporate DND elements: drow, paladins, wizards, etc.
