Erf waits impatiently while Gildrim and Ter-raen sort out their footwear. Suitably shod, the the party advances into the house again.

The next door opens to reveal a small dining room with an oval table of polished wood in the center. Fragile-looking chairs are pushed under the table, and around the edges are several discreet serving tables and cupboards. There is another door on the far corner of the room.

"Alright Fenenn lets put that nose of yours to good use!" Says Erf. It takes a while for the forest gnome to get the gist of his request across to the puzzled wolf hound, but eventually Fenenn realizes that Erf wants him to go and sniff around for critters and sets to snuffling about the room.

[sblock=OOC]Erf takes 20 to push Fenenn into using the seek command. Seek: The animal moves into an area and looks around for anything that is obviously alive or animate.

Nobody is going to wear the boots?[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Serow hasn't had a chance to say yes or no yet. I figured if they provide a boost to Jump, then they'd get Gildrim's Jump modifier to +0 at best, giving him the confidence to tackle the occasional grandmother's-back-breaking crack in a paving stone, whereas Ter-raen could make some truly useful leaps. If they increase speed, then letting the slowest party member have them would be a viable option, although a case could be made for increasing Ter-raen's speed further.[/sblock]Gildrim stands watch sword in hand lest centipedes, or worse, boil out from nooks and corners.

Fenenn sniffs around the room. He seems particularly interested in the top of the table and the chairs, but doesn't find anything alive.

Trusting Fenenn's nose implicity Erf moves into the room and begins investigating, climbing onto Fenenn's back to get a good look at the table top.

OOC: Takes a 20 on a search for a 22.

Eyes pressed close, Erf studies every inch of the tabletop closely, holding the candle this way and that to see the way light reflects off the surface. There are a number of smears and smudges in the dust on the tablecloth, as well as numerous tiny scratches a few inches in length, mostly old and faded, but a few are fresh. The smudges could be tracks, but whether from animal, bird, insect, or flying demon from the outer pits, it is impossible to tell.

"Hrumph," says Gildrim. "It's likely jes' rats, if th' centipedes havenae etten them aw. But mebbe thaur's anither swamp dweller wha's found Mordren Manor a haundy place tae stay. Ah've nae forgotten th' dairt trap oan th' front door aither. Still, makes nae difference tae us, richt? We're bein' caitious an' carefu' in ivery room, arenae we?"

"Well we better be quiet as well, we don't want te let a certain Nixie know we're back right? I'll send Fenenn inte the next room to, lets get ready just in case somethin' comes fer me big brave boy, yer a big brave boy aren't ye? Yes ye are, ye are!"

The little green druid croons to the wolf hound, he takes the time to open up the cupboards and take a quick look, and then sends Fenenn in for a snif about in the next room, watching on anxiously with his sling in hand.
