Using a Wish to intercept divinations...

Arravis

First Post
In the Epic Level Handbook (p115) it mentions that:
"powerful creatures use Wish to gain a 50% chance to intercept any divinations that concerns them directly."

Could anyone guess at the mechanics of this? Would it be a one-time thing, so that if someone divined twice it would work? Or a permanent thing that a Wish would grant?

To be honest I really don't know. It isn't one of the normal features of wish that is listed in the book. It's really up to the DM. I definately wouldn't make it a one time thing though, since that is way too weak. Since it has only a 50% chance to work I don't see a problem with it being permanent, since 5000 XP is more than it costs to make most spells permanent. Remember, Mind Blank blocks all Divinations and Enchantments, even foiling wish, and that lasts 24 hours, is an 8th level spell and costs nothing.

Well... This is something I wouldn't mind my npc's and/or my character doing (I'm co-dm). Perhaps it lasts several years... or do you think a wish would make it permanent?

I would just make it permanent, since it has only a 50% chance to work, and 5000 xp is as much as it would cost to make a 10th level spell permanent (500 xp per level). But it is up to the DM.

Keep in mind that permanent spells aren't invincible. They can be dispelled (albeit only by a caster of higher level) and Mordenkainen's Disjunction is even worse. Permanent spells really aren't that bad, if they're too powerful, just dispel them.
