I agree with Eidrog, otherwise no one would be able to blow any smoke at all.

lying_character tells you, "(( Yes, I am lying to you. Ha ha, I fooled you... ...oops, I guess I didn't after all. My evil plot has been revealed yet again. Damn. ))"

Basically, what this comes down to is common courtesy. . . Which there seems to be a lack of sometimes in the ISRP.
Exactly. Characters blowing smoke is one thing, but when the players do so as well, that's where the issue comes in, and as Fenmarel said, there are some players who get so paranoid about IC/OOC crossing up that they keep OOC matters unsaid. Of course as Bhryn specified, this particular situation was the result of the opposite.

It comes down to respect for one another when it comes to that IC/OOC line. Disrespecting a character by lying about them is one thing, but the least that can be done is to have the courtesy to not disrespect the player directly by making OOC statements that are full on lies. That's just needless and creates more of a dysfunctional environment than seems to exist already, and in the long run, I don't think more OOC problems are ever needed.

When it comes down to an issue of believability, it's best to at least be respectful of other players in these situations, otherwise, things can cause problems. They may not have in this situation, but in others, there's a good chance it can. These boards are full of examples of how dysfunctional the ISRP 'family' can be at times, and given that, it's easy to see how some OOC lies could potentially cause fractures in an already cracked group.
