Using Sharn in the Forgotten Realms

I have been considering buying Sharn. If I do, it'll be to drop it into my Forgotten Realms campaign. I'm going to use the 'Chanak' ploy for inserting it. What this means is that it'll be rooted directly from Eberron and placed somwhere random across Faerûn. Either I could allow some of the new classes from Eberron (Artificer and the like) or I could change specific individduals that have levels in the to revert to wizard levels and give them the appropriate feats (Item Creation mostly). By transplanting Sharn I am going to allow Warforged, Shifters and other whatnot to show up in my FR game. Where do you think Sharn would fit best in Faerûn?

Probably in Halruua. They are one of the highest magic places in the Realms, they already have flying ships, loads of magic at an everyday level (a regional feat for Halruaa gives cantrip casting, meaning even commoners there might be able to cast basic spells), and while they are fairly insular, they do have a lot of trade (via airships and some sea vessels).

For a darker turn, it could fit into Thay, maybe. It's also a high magic land, but one with a much darker bent, with slaves, a rigid and evil magiocracy bent on controlling the world (although now economic domination instead of military conquest). They really do get trade from all over the Realms, meaning it could be a fairly cosmopolitan place (if some of the more draconian aspects of Thayan government were toned down).

For an interesting turn, it could be dropped into the Sword Coast, thus relatively near Waterdeep. This puts two massive metropolises near each other, possibly creating an interesting effect when their outlying farms and settlements start to mingle, and it slowly grows into a sort of "Twin Cities" approach, or a heavily populated corridor.

Interesting ideas. I'd rather not stick Sharn in Shining South or near Chult as I don't have the sourcebooks for those areas. I really like the twin cities approach. Is Sharn a coastal city like Waterdeep?

Yup. It sits near the mouth of a large river, and it has some underground lava flows as well.

Personally, I'd put it at the mouth of the Lake of Steam. That's far enough from the over-detailed areas so that you won't upset any "canon material" if you worry about that, and gives you plenty of interesting hinterlands to explore.

Okay. I'm thinkinking between Yhep and Innarlith or maybe along the southen shore. Hmm, it is a bit mountainous down there. Perhaps nestled between the Firestear Mountains and the Duskwood.

Why not replace Innarlith? It sits on some major trade routes, which is perfect for Sharn.

My personal favorite would be Theymarsh, though, since it works better as a port town and the gegraphy works fairly well as well - a trade route coming from the east, the docks to the west - and it is easier to have direct shipping routes to far-off continents.
