D&D 3E/3.5 v4: Challenge Ratings pdf (3.5 compatible)

Just curious, I understand there are two or three people designing spreadsheets based on Upper Krust's Challenge Rating work.

Any word on how those are coming along?

I'm also curious to know how those spreedsheets are being designed. Will they require data to be entered for each published monster, or will the Challenge Ratings of each published monster be listed in the spreadsheet -- automatically adjusting whenever the code (that represents Upper Krust's math) is changed in the programmed equations?

I hope that's worded clearly. :)

I have one. It's written, but I don't know if it works properly -- 'm waiting for someone 'in the know' to look over my output. (Since I wasn't sure it it was working properly, I made it show the work, so it's pretty easy to check.)

My spreadsheet is *just* an updater -- it takes the old CR and a few other pieces of information (size, etc.) and spits out the new CR.

Hiya mate! :)

I know xanatos is close to completion, but I still don't have a working copy of Excel to check stuff yet. Hopefully I will get it tomorrow, last Friday everything was confused because of me taking time out to finish the CC4 Submissions.

I honestly don't know (obviously), but the latter seems like a mammoth undertaking.

You are saying someone should already have every monster inputted and listed already. Good luck to someone willing to tackle that.

What I would really like is an online spreadsheet. Maybe when we get the spreadsheet(s) done we can get them put on a website somewhere...?

I have a stupid question, but that's not new, so here goes:

If I have this generic monster race and give one of these guys 6 PC lvls and he ends up being ECL 9 after wealth and silver rule and all that, the question is:

Is he going to get 2 ability raises from lvls and 9 feats from lvls or is the U_K CR system based on the WotC way, that HD alone determines that (i.e. he gets only 1 ability raise and 3 feats)?

Not sure if this answers your question or not Sorcica, but level-dependant ability increases and feats should be based off Hit Dice and levels alone (or the combination of both). The final Challenge Rating of such a creature should not have any bearing.

Meaning, a 4 Hit Dice monster who picked up 6 character levels, should have recieved an ability increase for their 4th Hit Dice, and another for their 4th character level. Similarly, they should only have 4 feats; 1 for their first Hit Dice, 1 for their third Hit Dice, 1 for 2nd character level, and 1 for their 5th character level.

That is my understanding of it.

So it is the WotC way? Only levels with a HD counts? That's the way it is in Savage Species - I'm just not sure if U_K's system makes the same assumption. That is, that 'virtual' lvls (such as from special abilities) don't count.

I agree with you. Now let's see what Krust has to say.

And thanks for answering.

:)

Hiya Sorcica mate!

sorry for the slow response (see the IH thread for the why).

Yes. What he said. :D

Thanks sonofapreacherman mate for filling in during my hiatus! :)

Incidently I just got a lend of Microsoft Office 2003 (at last) so I'll get that installed tonight and hopefully I'll be able to check over the various spreadsheets tomorrow. :)

Might I suggest OpenOffice.org? It's a free office suite funded by Sun, and IMHO, is much better than MS Office. You don't have to "borrow" your friend's copy of Office, since it will open MS office files just fine.

Just thought I'd mention for the sake of the copyright conscious... ;)
