Hi Kavon mate! :)

Hey U_K :)

Upper_Krust said:
No worries, I wasn't really expecting one at this points. :p

:o

Upper_Krust said:
I know what thats like.

You wouldn't happen to have an epic Jetlag Zombie or something lying around? :D

Upper_Krust said:
I haven't went back to it as yet. I want to forget it and then return with a fresh perspective on the cusp of the IH release.

Yeah, I think I remember you saying that :o This is probably the 3rd or so time I asked you :p

Upper_Krust said:
I remember. ;)

I think that suggestion for how much spells would cost you gave me would work out pretty well, though I think it would need some tweeking still.

Upper_Krust said:
Sometimes leaving a problem and then returning to it can make it easier to solve.

Hmm.. I guess I haven't left it long enough then :p

Upper_Krust said:
No. Its a deluge of paper here, its really like looking for a needle in the proverbial haystack. I am sure it will turn up one day when I am looking for something else though.

I could probably reverse engineer it given a hour or two but if I am honest I really don't want to, I just want to leave the whole sordid mess behind.

I guess I'll figure something out.

Upper_Krust said:
Have fun! :p

Oh, I'm sure I will @_@

Heya U_K,

Sorry to bring the dying thread back up here but...

Have you happened to post the core class deconstructions for v4? I think it would be highly educational to glance at them. (I've searched the threads and cannot find references). And if you haven't, are you planning to include them in the IH? Thanks! :)

Ha!
This is the first thing I will pester UK with when he gets his website up and running. God knows, I've been asking for it many times.
It will really help in designing monsters and classes.

UK. Post the breakdowns. The people demands it! ;)

Thats okay.

...if I had a penny for everytime one of these threads had been ressurected. :D

Not yet.

You guys think you would get something out of them?

Thats okay, just ask me, no sense searching through these threads, they tend to get a bit big.

Honestly, no. I think I can find better uses for that space.

Sorcica had an interesting idea to update them when I get the website ready (which should be before the IH release; which itself should be fairly soon)

It should be simplicity to update all the relevant information on PC class breakdowns (and Prestige Classes I suppose). In fact that might make a nice feature.

By the way Kavon mate I found the Spell System breakdowns (or part of it) so I can also stick that on the website when the time comes.

It would be very useful to me at least ;)

Ah, great! :)

I'll be eagerly awaiting the launch of the site :D

Excel Programmer Needed!

Folks, I need an excel programmer willing to design a spreadsheet to do UK's CR calculations for me, created to my specifications, and on a short timeframe.

I am accepting bids from enterprising Excel programmers willing to tackle the job (I know a few folks have started already...)

If you are interested, please email me (support@badaxegames.com) with a bid for your work. If you are willing to accept a portion of your pay in product, please specify this.

Looking forward to getting a few bids!

It would also be great if a talented "java" programmer designed a web page that calculated Upper_Krust's challenge ratings system.

Not that this is a huge incentive, but I would custom design a prestige class to their specifications. So I guess what I'm really looking for is a java programmer who is also a D&D player.

:)

My current professional credits include the "Invisible Blade", "Occult Slayer", and "Reaping Mauler". You can view these at my web site by clicking on the link in my signature (below). I would design and PDF such a prestige class exactly as I have done in my prestige class section.

I am currently writing a JavaScripted webpage for calculating the revised CR rules. With it I hope to build monsters more easily. In actuality, it will be more of a "monster builder," as I want it to also have the option to print out WotC-style monster stat blocks, with the revised CR (plus golden and silver rule CR's). The goal is for SRD monsters to come out looking exactly like they do in the MM.

I am currently working off of the 4.0 docs (have new ones been released?), and I hope the utility is extensible enough to be easily upgrades to future CR Revision revisions (pun intended).

Progress is going well, all things considered. I have been a professional Java coder for three years, but JavaScript is very new to me (learned yesterday ;)). Don't let anyone tell you they are similar. Still, I anticipate the CR calculation + GUI building (being worked on concurrently) will take the least amount of time (almost finished, as a matter of fact), while the stat-blocking will take more time (calculating actual hp's, attacks, damage, saves, etc.).

My question is: are there any copyright issues involved with posting/distributing this utility? I downloaded the appendix to the Immortals Handbook, and I see no copyright information saying whether or not I'm actually allowed to distribute what I'm making. If it's not ok to distribute, it will seriously hamper my ability to spot bugs, receive new feature requests and/or get it tested by the masses for proper QA. So, IH writers, what's the good word?

Yeah sorry I didn't have the copyright notice added, that would have made things a lot clearer.

The downloaded appendices can be used by anyone, with two provisos:

1. It cannot be used in any product thats going on sale without my consent.
2. You must credit the source...namely me and the book. :D

Immortals Handbook by Craig Cochrane, Copyright 2001-2004

If its only going to be used informally, non-profit then obviously you only need the latter.

I think it is polite for folks to ask you for consent (as I have done) but, ultimately, once you publish Open Content, it is out of your control.

Open is open, you can't place restrictions on its use. (A provision of the License, actually.) If you publish under the OGL (which includes web publishing) then you have to live with the OGL.

If you don't want folks to use it, the only thing you can do is not publish it.

But as you have already published it, then you need to make sure the Copyright Notice is included, to make sure you are properly credited.

In the meantime if you want to control dissemination of your work (perhaps to give deference to the IH until you publish), then do not make it available for download (ie, don't publish). But as you know, once you publish the Immortal's Handbook, all of your Open Content is out there for folks to use.
