Vampire Question

First Post
The SRD/MM never really talk about it, but according to myth Vampires had to rest for the daylight hours in their coffins, drink blood every now and then and did not "Slam" their enemies.

I am playing a Vampire in a D&D game and was wondering, any idea on such rules? Any house rules or suggestions. If you need a reference I was aiming for an Anne Rice style vampire.

As far as I know, vampires like other Undead don't need to sleep. Vampires just need to stay out of sunlight.

That said, there is a lot of info about vampires and other Undead in Libris Mortis, including their feeding habits and what happens when they haven't fed in a while.

the Campaign Im playing in is about to introduce a Vampire into the Party. Some how this Vampire is LN ( yes i said LN) HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??

I am playing a Paladin and i dont know what to do. the Vampire isnt evil, for some reason, and im supposed to be fine with it and allow the vampire to join? Since he isnt evil I shouldnt have a problem with it, but common sense says something it wrong. He is required to drink 2 Pints of blood a day and if he doesnt he looses 1 point of Constutition. If he reaches 0 constitution than he goes crazy and will kill everything in sight.

I need some tips on how to resolve this problem. Ive already been threatoned my multiple PC's that if I harm the Vamp in any way they will kill me. What should I do?

I dont want to have to spend ALL DAY looking over my shoulder incase he decides to turn on us. PLZ HELP!!!!

when the VAMP joins our party he is required to have special sunglasses and robes that block out all of the sun. Another Party member has payed for these item and the Vamp is repaying him by joining our party to work it off

As for LN, well, your DM could be relaxing alignment restrictions on the template, or using a different template.

As for feeding, does it require Human blood? If not, buy a few horses (or mules or donkeys) and have him rotate those of which he partakes. With 2-3 HD each, they will recover 2-3 HP a night on natural healing alone (if I'm remembering natural healing correctly - 1 hp per HD per full night of rest). If the drain does, for example, 10 points of damage, the vamp needs to rotate through at least 10 HD of critters (so that by the time the vamp gets back around to the first, it is fully recovered). By 3.5 SRD, mules cost 8 gp each, and have 3 HD. With the above 10 hp damage example, you would need at least four such mules, five or six to be safe, as well as the Handle Animal ranks and Feed to care for them:
Day 1: Drain Mule 1 (mule 1 down 10 hp)
Day 2: Drain Mule 2 (mule 1 down 7 hp, mule 2 down 10)
Day 3: Drain Mule 3 (mule 1 down 4 hp, mule 2 down 7, mule 3 down 10)
Day 4: Drain Mule 4 (mule 1 down 1 hp, mule 2 down 4, mule 3 down 7, mule 4 down 10)
Day 5: Drain Mule 1 again (finished recovery overnight)

Quietly ask the DM if you can have/help a wizard or cleric to make a special neckless that will make your blood poisonis to undead/vampires. Should stop your fear of the man/woman vamp.

D&D Vampires only really need to rest when they get "destroyed".

The level-drain by touch is a bit weird, as they should drain the life with the blood out of their victims.

The slam attack seems right, tho. Vampires tend to have tremendous strength and that's a good way to show it apart from the obvious high Str score.

You should ask your DM this question... Though I would like to mention that there IS a "good" version of a Lich in one of the books (maybe it was MM2?).

What does your Paladin code say about undead? If you are using the Paladin code out of the PHB (rather than coming up with your own code for your particular campaign) I don't think there is anything wrong w/ it Core-rules-wise.

I personally would be against it (whether it was a good or evil undead), but that is just how I play my Paladins. YMMV

Here are some tips... Be "realistic". How do you think your character would REALLY act in this situation, where an undead is introduced into the party? I would personally be against it, and try to destoy the undead. Then again, most of the people I play with don't play "shady" characters, they play sterotypical "heroic" ones and would also be on my side (the Paladin's side). If this upsets the other players, realistically the Paladin would either leave the group OR die fighting the "good" vampire and his so-called friends who may try to stop him.

The other tip (if you don't want any uneasy feelings at the gaming table) is just to accept it and roll with it, noting that should the Vampire act up, all bets are off and he's as good as dead.

Or pick up a Ring of Sustenance. :)
