Vampire question.....

Ok...if you reduce a vampire to 0 or fewer hit points while he is in gaseous form it "incapacitates" him. Does this turn him back to solid form or is he just destroyed? What happens to any items he happened to be carrying when he went gaseous form? Are they destroyed or do they turn back to solid form also?

So......what happens when you kill the vampire? Does any of his stuff he was carrying drop to the ground or is it gone forever?

When you kill the vampire he would revert to his humanoid form, just like with any other shapeshifting abilities. Though killing a vampire is no easy business.

If you drop a vampire to 0 hit points, he turns gaseous and tries to get back to his coffin to regenerate. If he was already gaseous, he stays gaseous and must get back to his coffin. When he turns gaseous, all his stuff turns gaseous with him.

Yes, I realize this. But what I'm looking for is if you kill the vampire while he is in gaseous form does his stuff revert back to normal or stay gaseous and just go away?

The way I handle it is that his body, including his stuff, becomes material just long enough for his body to crumble into thick dust. I do this mostly for the visual effect, but I'm not sure if that's what is "supposed" to happen.

The thing is that it's not normally possible to kill a vampire in gaseous form. Any damage done beyond 0 while a Vampire is in gaseous form is ignored.

Now, if somehow the Vamp was killed while in this form - I'd say it would turn solid and then die. But again, according to the write-up, this isn't possible, although the effects of turn attempts while gaseous are not described. That would require a DM call.

You could also (IIRC) catch him in the sunlight while he was gaseous.

Hmmmm....I don't really agree that it's not possible to kill a vampire in gaseous form. It says that the vampire's gaseous form is like the spell gaseous form and that states that you get DR 10/magic, etc. So if you can be damaged while in gaseous form I would believe you can be killed. I just run it like KReynolds where if the vampire gets killed while in gaseous form, he reverts back to normal form and is dead.
