Vampiric Weapons

If already at maximum, you get 1d4 temporary hit points. Now, if I understand this correctly, and I'm pretty sure I do, the most temporary hit points you'll ever get are 4, right? For example, say I'm at max and I pop somebody and gain 3 temporary hit points. Next round, I pop them again and roll a 1d4, getting a result of 4. I only get 1 more because they don't stack (they overlap), but my total temporary hit points is now 4, right? What if I roll a 3 the second time? I don't get anything right?

If this is indeed the case, start over with the first round, with me gaining 3 temporary hit points for popping someone. Now, next round, I pop them again, but this time it isn't from the same vampiric weapon I popped them with last time. Could the second weapon raise my temporary hit points to the max of 4? Do I get anything from this second weapon at all, or must all the temporary hit points come from the same one?

From what I understand they don't stack with each other. So, if at first you gain 2 temp HP and then next time you gain 3 temp hp you now have 3 temp hp.

I have no idea how using two of these weapons works.

Yes, AFAIK THP don't stack. So you'll use those weapons to give you back HP, to a maximum of your max HP + 4. If you attack the enemy with 4 attacks or so, and have full HP, it won't be of to much use, but if you have taken damage (or lost some of those THP between the attacks), it's fine.

Temporary hit points, even from different sources, don't stack. Maybe I read that in a FAQ. The only cite I can find is in the Psionics power Vigor, but it only references itself, so maybe I'm misremembering.

Does any one have a cite on temp HP's not stacking?

I know that I've been allowing it. It just seemed to make sense to me.

edit Especially in the case of the Vamp weapon ability. Way overpriced if it works like this.

edit the second OK, just read the Vamp ability again. Not as underpriced as I thought. Still wondering if there's a cite for it though.

"How is the body feeder weapon quality supposed to work?
Do the temporary hit points from the weapon stack? The
same question applies to mind feeder weapons and to spell
effects, such as vampiric touch.
Temporary hit points from a body feeder weapon stack with
each other, but not with temporary hit points from any other
source. Likewise, temporary psionic points from a mind feeder
weapon stack, but not with temporary psionic points from any
other source. "

/me shrugs
I'd go with my original statement until proven otherwise.

It's like bonuses: those with the same name don't stack.

Allowing it will give you another use for the Bucket-Of-Snails: poke around in there to get hundreds of thp...

Thx Greg.

It looks llike the Sage is saying that temp HP's only stack if they're from the same source.

So in the case of a vamp weapon, the d4 will stack, but it won't stack with a Vamp Touch or a Body Feeder weapon. But that would also mean that Vamp Touch would stack with itself.

My rogue has a dagger of vampirism. We've been playing that they stack up to a max of your normal total + 4. So, if you aren't taking damage, then it's not very helpful. However, the DC is so low (Fort 16), that at my level (14), it hasn't been effective much of the time...maybe 1 out of every 7 attacks or so. For a +2 bonus, the DC should be like 20 imo.:D
