I'd have to retroactively go back and make this a "+" thread. Not that I am not open to ideas or things I have not considered, but I am also not into having people yell at me for not fitting their particular design sensibilities which they have decided is the only "good design."
I can understand that, but also, F them.

Just to reassure you that I intended to steal your ideas, not criticize them. 😁

Interesting.

My homebrew uses the 5E engine. Like you some classes level faster.

It's a blend of B/X, 3.75 and 5E.

I use 3 saves fort, ref, will.
Martials are proficient in 3 saves, half casters 2, casters 1. Martial level faster they resemble Star Wars Saga characters with some 5E stuff built in.

They get alternating talent, feat, talent feat.

Using 5E spells eventually I'll blend 3.5 and 5E. Eg fireball will be going back to 3.5 version. Creatures will be a blend of 3.5 and 5E but hit points will be closer to 3.5 versions but statted like 5E.

The Sun is a star?

But more seriously, yes there is a Sun God but the real answer is I was trying to limit how many I start with.
I understand completely.

When I made my bespoke PHB I left out the monk and a couple other classes as I was focusing on two new ones for myself. I've since included it, but it's been a while since then.

I didn't see your original post! This is very cool, I like a lot of the ideas you've spoken of here and their inspirations. I might make a suggestion if you're cutting it down to 10 levels but with it taking much longer to level: incremental advances, from 13th Age. It could hit or miss for your players, but it's something I implemented in my most recent game:
Incremental Advances:
When you've gained 25% of the experience necessary to reach the your character's next level, you may gain an incremental advance. This represents the knowledge you've gleaned in your adventures suddenly coming to light, whether taking a breather or in the midst of danger; unlike level-ups which require a Long Rest to complete, you can gain an incremental advance in-between sessions without rest. For multiclass characters, once you have taken an advance in a class you must take further advances in that class until you've leveled it up.

  • ASI/Feat - If your next level would grant an ASI/Feat, you can choose this.
  • Hit Die - Your character gains your next levels' Hit Die, increasing their max hp though not their current hp; this hit die is available for healing from short rests etc!
  • Feature - Your character gains a feature from your next level.
  • Spell Known - Your character learns a spell that they would learn next level, and can cast it once if they do not yet have the appropriate spell slot for it.
  • Spell Slots - Your character gains the new spell slots that they'd have at their next level.
I'm also planning on implementing E9/Epic 9, where at level 9 a character's vertical advancement drastically slows, but they can get cool new features through Boons etc...
Anyway, very cool ideas here and thank you for posting them!

This. If you don't like everything in 5E own it and make your own.
