Variant Spellcasting House Rule

Malcer

First Post
After having read through Arcana unearthed, I am thinking of implementing my own Variant Spellcasting House Rule.

I'd like to combine the Daily Spell List system that Andy Collins proposed on page 153 in Unearthed Aracana with the Spell Point Variant: Vitalizing on page 156.

This is how it works:

1. Every caster that has to prepare spells prepares and casts them like Andy Collins suggests, except for Metamagic, which has to be prepared and cast like before.

Example:

13th-lvl. wizard

Spells Prepared 4/5/5/5/5/3/2/1
(DC 14 + spell level)
0 – Arcane Mark, Daze, Mage Hand, Read Magic
1- Feather Fall, Magic Missile, Mage Armor Ray of Enfeeblement, Shield
2 –Blur, Protection from Arrows, See Invisibility, Darkness
3 –Fireball, Dispel Magic, Nondetection, Protection from Energy
Max. Magic Missile
4 – Ice Storm, Phantasmal Killer, Stoneskin, Detect Scrying Dimensional Anchor
5 – Cone of cold, Teleport, Max. Scorching Ray
6 – Globe of Invulnerability, Eyebite l
7- Finger of Death

This wizard would be able to cast any combination of his prepared spells up to the his maximum per level as Andy Collins suggested. The important difference to Andy Collins would be that this wizard can only use Max. Magic Missile and Max. Scorching Ray once and would have a combination of 4 third level and a combination of 2 fith level spells left to cast.

2. Casters will be fatigued after casting half their amount of spell levels, and they will be exhausted after casting another half of their remaining amount of spell levels. After they are exhausted, they receive 1d6 points of subdual damage per spell they continue to cast.

Example:

13th-lvl. wizard:

Spell Levels:
0. = 0
1. = 5 x 1 = 5
2. = 5 x 2 = 10
3. = 5 x 3 = 15
4. = 5 x 4 = 20
5. = 3 x 5 = 15
6. = 2 X 6 = 12
7. = 1 X 7 = 7

Total = 84 spell levels

Normal Spellcasting: 84 - 42 spell levels remain
Fatigued : 42 - 21 spell levels remain
Exhausted : 20 a. less spell levels remain
1d6 subdual damge: as Exhausted but spellcaster continues casting spells

Amendment: Spellcasters willl be able to make a Fortitude save to avoid nonleathal damage when they cast while being exhausted.
(DC 15 + spell level)

Paladins and Rangers are not affected by Fatigue and Exhaustion when they cast spells.

Sorcerers and Bards receive one extra spell slot per level. (Or they won't be affected by Fatigue and Exhaustion, I haven't made up my mind on that.)

After resting for one hour, a wizard and a cleric is no longer exhausted, but becomes again exhausted if he casts another spell.

I figure that clerics and druids would be most affected by the Fatigue and the Exhaustion rule.

Undead spellcaster would be excempt from Fatigue and Exhaustion as well.

What do you think of this House Rule? Any comments will be appreciated.

Thank you!
