Pathfinder 1E VAT on Paizo subscriptions in Europe?

Stegger

First Post
Hi,
I posted this in the "Why dont you buy ........." thread, but I just wanted to make sure that it did not drown in that thread.
I am about to sign up for a 1-year subscription to both Dragon and Dungeon, and hope of course that the delivery problems have been resolved!
I just have a single question. I am not sure if the Danish VAT, 25 %, has to be added to the prices given on the Piazo homepage, but there might be exception since it is being distributed from the UK. Being within EU, does that mean that there is no additional VAT being added or?
I am hoping some subscribers from Europe might know....
Thanks in advance!

Effective today, we also have VAT. 18% on everything, save bread and milk (which have 8% VAT).

Looks like I'll be ordering everything from the US of A. Many states there don't even have sales tax, much less VAT.

Ah, but if their income tax is way less, it would work out the same.

Not that I know whether this is the case or not...

hmmm, I might be that the toll on magazine is 6 procent here as well, but the VAT is 25% here in Denmark. But did you have to pay that on your subscription?

Our income tax is about 40% at the lowest, and up to some +65%..... So no, it is definetly not reflected in our income tax! But probably partly in our income but mainly due to the free health and education system etc that is provided.

In the UK VAT is 0% on books and magazines, I'm not sure if there is a way of getting the VAT paid (or not paid in this case) to be taken into account if subscribing from another EU state.

Are you paying "The Place for games" in the UK for your subscription, or Paizo direct (in USA)?

This matters because VAT is not reclaimable (or therefore chargeable) when citizens of the European Union buy goods in one member state and transport them to their home member state. So, if the goods are paid for in Sterling to "The Place for Games," you will be fine.

(incidentally, UK VAT is zero on books, so if its higher than zero in another member state then it is distorting the market- situations like this are what lead the European Union to keep pushing for VAT harmony across Europe-plus the European union wants the revenue from more VAT ;) Of course, we Brits keep fighting for our VAT free books and food...

Edit- quote from the UK Inland Revenue website "37. Businesses from other EU countries delivering goods to private consumers in the UK normally charge the VAT of their own country. However, if the goods delivered exceed 100,000 Euros (around £70,000), the overseas business must register in the UK and charge the private consumer UK VAT. Overall, these arrangements prevent distortion of competition since a private consumer cannot "shop around" the EU for the lowest rate of tax. Distance selling arrangements do not apply to goods imported from outside the EU."

So, as I say, if you are buying from the UK distributors, you will be fine...
