there are? :) how did i miss that? what page?

i'm fine with this, if there is at least some minimal rules coverage...

I don't have the page # handy, but it is summarized on Table 3-7. :)

was there a sharpness feature in 3.0?

Nope. No official sharpness in 3x.

not in the 3.5 DMG! ;) and you're close if you're thinking the 3.0 DMG, which it is on Table 3-9 and presented as a variant rule.

in the 3.5 DMG, the information is not on a numbered table (so i can't give you such a number), but the info is updated on page 27, still a variant rule.

even though it's a variant, we can still make use of it. we can give the slicer augmented critical and/or wounding, and then add perhaps a sidebar detailing how DMs who use the "Damage to Specific Areas" rule could get some extra fun out of a slicer.

Heh. I thought #53 was a statement, not a question. :heh:

I could see either going the ol' sharpness as a sidebar, or making it the ability and saying "for a simplier slicer beetle, use X". Either would work...I'd let the editors make the choice.

i'll go with the more standard stuff as the "official" version, and then give them an option or two and let them decide.

A lot of complaints surrounding MMIV was that it contained a lot of spiders. If I was going to pick one out of your list it would be the tarantella. That is, if my memory is correct. Is that the spider from Basic D&D that can inflict you with a spasm-like dance?

Oops, I posted this thread before doing the poll and realizing your are doing a beetle query.

well, i'll be doing 5 queries, and one of them is a beetle query. :) the tarantella should be considered a "spider of interest" in the meantime, though. ;)
