D&D 5E VGTM will have monster lair maps

Nice to hear about this. I'm on the fence about the format of this book. I don't mind lore heavy monster books...Old Van Richtens Guides, DragonLance SAGA Bestiary and MV:TttNV were all faves..I just don't need another book filled with FR specifics ecologies/lore (I have tons already, thanks)


The utility of lairs/encounter areas however will get me to the bookstore to take a gander.

Don't forget, it will have guidelines for playable monster races, too. If your group is into that sort of thing.

From what we've seen of the previews so far (there are two new lore pages in today's Paste preview, for orcs and giants), it seems fairly FR-light and more towards D&D generic. Granted, we don't know if the pages released so far are typical, but it's definitely not looking excessively FR-heavy when it comes to the lore.

It is almost as if they are trying to put something in this book for as many people as possible

One of my favorite resources from the 2e era (alas, there were not many) was the Book of Lairs (I and II). While I did not often use them unaltered, they certainly were inspiring.

So yes, interested and happy to see this.
