One thing to note (which seems to have been left behind) is that the original question wasn't whether the _target's_ DR protected it from the vicious weapon. It's whether the _wielder's_ DR protects him from the damage he takes himself. The answer to this would be no, it doesn't protect him, for the reasons already cited.
