Vicious Slammer

First Post
Hi, undead fellows out there in the dark....

What is Vicious Slammer supposed to be?

The Slaughter Wight from Libris Mortis (page 121) should have a description for that. Maybe, I'm blind and I missed the entry.

By the way: How is the Slaughter Wight dealing 1d8+15 with a slam attack? The normal damage class for a medium slam should be 1d6 insted of 1d8 and with Power Attack (at -5 as suggested) the damage bonus should be +12 and not +15.

Thanx for your time in advance.

The vicious slammer ability must explain the +15 to damage.

The Slaughter Wight has a BAB of +9 and 24 STR (+7), for a total attack bonus of +16. If it takes a -5 penalty due to its power attack feat, its attack bonus goes down to +11, and its damage bonus should be +12 (+7+5).

Perhaps Vicious Slammer adds another +3 to damage, or lets the Wight add 1.5 times its STR bonus to its attacks...

I'm thinking the same as you.
Would it be "plausible" that Vicious Slammer takes the normal slam damage is die step higher?

No need. All monsters get 1.5 times their STR bonus to dmg when they have only one natural weapon (ref. MM p.299 under "natural weapons").

Ah. Didn't know that... must be 3.5... Here it is in the SRD:

A creature’s primary attack damage includes its full Strength modifier (1-1/2 times its Strength bonus if the attack is with the creature’s sole natural weapon)

Then that must be it...

First:
The SRD is right, of course.

Second:
Calculations must be conducted as follows (hope my math is right :)):
Attack Bonus: Base attack +9, Strength bonus due to Str 24 +7 = +16, -5 for suggested power attack = +11; Entry is correct (+11).
Damage: Str bonus +7 x 1,5 (as per SRD quoted above) = +10,5 [rounded down as usual to] +10, +5 for power attack = +15; Entry correct.

Third:
The SRD is correct, of course. q.e.d.

OK, then the special quality Vicious Slammer is the equivalent of the Improved Natural Attack feat (page 304 of the MM 1)., changing the base damage dice of 1d6 of a slam attack for a medium critter to 1d8.

Thanx
