Blistering Barnacles!
Watching some old favorites. Last few minutes . . . WOW. Great performances all around. Interesting critter, funny sequence in Tardis with goofy Time Lord gadget, etc.Did I mention last minutes?Episode tackled some delicate subject matter with care. What are some of your favorites (episodes not part of overall story arc)?

Some of my favourites:

Dalek
By the time the show was revived, the Daleks had been parodied almost more than they'd been played straight, so bringing them back as a credible enemy required some very careful handling. This episode delivered on that front spectacularly, and with only a single Dalek.

The Girl in the Fireplace
The Doctor co-stars in an epic romance that blends historical France with a very screwed-up spaceship. A moving episode, with a great musical score.

Blink
The show went overboard with the Weeping Angels later, diluting the simple menace of their concept, but the episode that introduces them is excellently creepy, tense and moving, with an excellent guest cast that more than makes up for the Doctor and Martha's minimal involvement.

the crazy chicken episode, The actor who played Vincent was excellent though especially when you consider he was playing to empty space.

Girl in the Fireplace remains my favourite episode though, the relationship of the Doctor to the girl was very insightful and of course they had great chemistry.

This.

Human Nature/Family of Blood is probably my favourite.

I really enjoyed Matt Smith's final episode.

And several this year from Capaldi - the Dalek two-parter with Missy, the second Zygon ep, the final two episodes, all amongst the best the show has ever been.

Blink and Fireplace are definite contenders which suffer only from the fact that I've seen them too often.

Some recent ones:

Hide - a bit busy, but very clever.
Flatline - probably the most satisfying old-Who style new-Who story.
Kill the Moon - look, that last scene on the beach is astounding, both in terms of imagery & character drama. So what if the science is non-existent. What do you expect from Doctor Who? The Martian?
